Bajaj Auto gains market leadership is Sports and Entry segment motorcycles in India.

Bajaj Auto has announced their achievement of leadership in the Sports and Entry segment motorcycles in India.

In the Entry segment, Bajaj has gained market share of 36% from its earlier 23% within the first 9 months of the financial year since the introduction of the CT-100 and the new Platina. In the November-December period, Bajaj also attained a market share of 53% in the Sports bike segment, after launching the new Avengers, Pulsar RS200, AS150 and AS200 motorcycles. In consolidation, while the Entry and the Sports segment motorcycles in cohesion constitute 43% of the industry, Bajaj now leads with 36% market share.

Eric Vas, President (Motorcycle Business) Bajaj Auto said, “By the introduction of new Products such as the CT100 and the new Platina, we strengthened our position in the Entry level segment. In the Sports segment we enhanced our leadership position through the launch of the Pulsar RS 200, Pulsar AS 200 & 150 and the exciting Avenger Cruise 220 and Avenger Street 220 & 150.”

Bajaj Auto gained momentum in the Entry level segment with the launch of the CT 100, which re-entered the Indian market last year, and the new Platina which made its debut in January, The company sold 6.81 lakh entry level commuter motorcycles in the first 9 months of the year as against 3.83 lakh last year, resulting to a growth of 77%.

The Pulsar RS200 has beccome the best selling performance motorcycle brand priced over Rs. 1 lakh. While the Pulsar AS150 and the AS200 are not far behind. Bajaj sold 20,000 units of the newly launched Avenger in December 2015. Bajaj now plans to increase their capacity to produce the Avenger to 30,000 units per month by March 2016.

Bajaj now has market leadership in 2 of the 3 mass market segments of motorcycle industry in India. Bajaj has confirmed to address the Executive motorcycle segment (the third segment of the three) with the launch of a completely new brand in the current quarter of the fiscal.
