BMW R1300 GS

In the last few years, the adventure tourer market has experienced tremendous growth. ADVs are becoming more and more popular because of their robust structure and adaptable handling characteristics. After marking a global debut in September last year, BMW Motorrad has brought the R 1300 GS, its flagship adventure motorcycle, to the Indian market. The brand-new model will take up the R 1250 GS's spot in the bikemaker's India portfolio. A 1,300cc liquid-cooled boxer-twin engine, which produces 149Nm of peak torque and 143.5bhp of maximum power, is the motorcycle's main talking point.

With an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 20.95 lakh, the R 1300 GS rivals the likes of the Ducati Multistrada V4, Triumph Tiger 1200, Harley-Davidson Pan America, and the Honda Africa Twin. Here's a detailed comparison between the BMW R 1300 GS and the Ducati Multistrada V4 to see how they fare against each other when it comes to aspects like specs, features, design, and more.

A 1300cc mill, which produces 143bhp of peak power and 149Nm of torque with the help of a new six-speed gearbox with a bidirectional quickshifter, is the primary highlight of the new BMW R1300 GS. In comparison to the S1000RR, the engine still uses shift-cam technology and has a greater compression ratio.

The Multistrada V4 is fuelled by a V4 GranTurismo engine, designed to better suit the motorcycle's sport-tourer character, in comparison to the Desmosedici Stradale V4, which provides enhanced power in the Ducati Panigale V4 and Ducati Streetfighter V4. The V4, which sits within this Ducati's aluminium monocoque frame, produces 168bhp of maximum power at 10,500rpm and 125Nm of peak torque at 8,750rpm. This engine is unique because it uses a simpler spring valve return system in place of the intricate Desmodromic valve system. The modification in engine valve closure technology resulted in a massive service interval extension duration of 60,000 km, more than twice that of the earlier V-twin-powered Ducati Multistrada 1260.

On the feature front, the BMW R 1300 GS has a 6.5-inch colour TFT display, keyless ignition, ride-off assistant, Full Integral ABS Pro, and four standard riding modes: Rain, Road, Eco, and Enduro. Standard features include cross-spoked tubeless wheels and Comfort and Dynamic kits (electronic windscreen, bidirectional quickshifter, and Pro riding modes). The Touring package is also available, however it comes as standard with the Triple Black, GS Trophy, and Option 719 Tramuntana variants. Depending on the package decided on, the bike may come with extra accessories (Pro and Riding Assistant). The Riding Assistant package contains adaptive cruise control, active cruise control, lane change warning, and front collision warning; the Pro package adds three more riding modes: Dynamic, Dynamic Pro, and Enduro Pro.

The Multistrada V4's front and rear radar rider assistance system is its most noteworthy feature. The rear radar sensor detects and alerts vehicles approaching in the riders' blind spots through the indication light on the rear-view mirrors, while the front radar permits the use of adaptive cruise control, which regulates the Multistrada V4's speed based on the distance to the vehicle ahead. The model boasts an upgraded IMU with cornering ABS, eight-level wheelie control settings, and cornering traction control as a part of its electronics package. On the other hand, the more advanced Multistrada V4 S is fitted with cruise control, a bi-directional quick shifter, vehicle hold control, and cornering lights.
