Hero MotoCorp has announced that customer deliveries of the new Harley-Davidson X440 motorcycle – a product of a collaboration between Harley-Davidson and Indian two-wheeler powerhouse Hero MotoCorp – will finally commence from October 15, 2023. While the company has not accepted any fresh bookings post the 3rd of August, Hero said that it will reopen orders for the X440 soon on October 16. Prospective buyers can make their reservations via select Hero MotoCorp retail outlets as well as all Harley-Davidson showrooms across the country. With the reopening of bookings, the motorcycle will likely see a price hike – the first hike came within a month after the bike was launched in the domestic market. Introduced on July 3, the entry-level Harley-Davidson X440 Denim is currently available at Rs 2.40 lakh, while the mid-spec Vivid and the top-spec S are priced at Rs 2.60 lakh and Rs 2.80 lakh, respectively. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.

Hero MotoCorp decided to temporarily end the booking period for the X440 on August 3, due to its high demand. At the close of its first booking window, the X440 secured more than 25,000 bookings. Of these, the top-spec S variant accounted for about 65 per cent. The first booking window opened on July 4 for a token amount of Rs 5,000. The test rides for the bike have already begun from September 1 for customers who have pre-booked the same.
Harley-Davidson X440: Features
The Harley-Davidson X440 motorcycle is offered in three different variants: Denim, Vivid, and S. The entry-level version features an LED headlamp, a TFT screen, wire-spoke wheels, as well as minimal badging, whereas the mid-range Vivid comes with alloy wheels and dual-tone colour alternatives. The top-of-the-line S model has diamond-cut alloy wheels, machined engine cooling fins, 3D badging, and a colour TFT dash with Bluetooth connectivity for navigation and notification alerts. A USB charging port is standard on all models.
Harley-Davidson X440: Suspension, Braking
The X440 offers a steel trellis frame, which is suspended with the help of KYB 43mm upside-down forks with a dual-cartridge damping system at the front and twin gas-filled shock absorbers with a 7-step preload adjustment at the back. Braking duties are carried out by a single disc at both ends, accompanied by dual-channel ABS.
Weighing 190.5kg, the bike gets a 13.5-litre fuel tank and has a seat height of 805mm. The bike's new MRF Zapper Hyke tyres, sized 100/90-18 up front and 140/70-17 at the back, offer plenty of ground clearance at 170mm.
Harley-Davidson X440: Drivetrain
Powering the X440 motorcycle is a 440cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine. Power and torque figures are rated at 27bhp at 6,000rpm and 38Nm at 4,000rpm, respectively. This brand-new engine on the Harley-Davidson X440 is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
In the Indian market, it competes with the Honda CB350, the Honda CB350 RS, the Benelli Imperiale 400, the Triumph Speed 400, and the Royal Enfield 350 lineup, which includes the Classic 350, the Hunter, and the Meteor. The first product from the partnership is currently being manufactured at Hero MotoCorp's Neemrana factory in Rajasthan.
