Bookings open; Priced at Rs 12.90 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi)

A recent official communication from Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has taken us by surprise. The Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin has been launched at a phenomenal price of Rs 12.90 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). Bookings for the Africa Twin have commenced for the first 50 customers. This adventure-tourer from Honda’s line-up is the first ‘Make in India’ litre-class offering by HMSI. Bookings can be made at any of the 22 Honda Wing World outlets across the country.

Honda unveiled the Africa Twin globally in July 2015 and since then there have been numerous speculations about its official launch in India. The Africa Twin is an all-new motorcycle from ground-up that is based on a twin-spar cast aluminium chassis. Providing firepower to the Africa Twin is a 998cc parallel-twin motor that makes 87 horses and 92Nm. Globally, the Africa Twin is available with a 6-speed manual transmission and a Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) but Indian buyers do not get the former option. The motorcycle sits on a 21-inch spoke wheel up front and an 18-inch wheel at the back. Highlight features on the new Africa Twin include switchable ABS, traction control with an off-road setting, Honda selectable torque control and driving modes – Standard, D and S. In the standard mode, the rider can make use of the paddles to change gears, while the D and S modes are fully automatic. In D, the bike has tamed ratios for a calmer demeanour. The S mode, on the other hand, is sportier and comes with three gear shift patterns – S1, S2 and S3. The bike tips the scale at 230kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 18.8 litres.

Commenting on the development, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President - Sales and Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “Africa Twin – its name is inseparable from the spirit of Dakar Rally- world’s toughest rally raids. Down to its roots, when the going gets tough, Africa Twin gets going. There is nothing to hold back an enthusiast on the Africa Twin, as it’s the most reliable, versatile and proven adventure touring motorcycle. The real adventure is awaiting the lucky customers amongst the first 50 bookings of the legendary Africa Twin in India.”

As of now, bookings of the Honda Africa Twin are open for the first 50 customers only. Select customers will also get a chance to attend the grand outdoor ‘True Adventure’ Africa Twin India launch event. The Africa Twin will only be available in the New Victory Red shade.
