Honda Africa Twin Highlights
Given the opportunity to update its flagship multi-terrain motorcycle to meet the BS-VI emission standards, Honda has completely revamped the Africa Twin. While it was introduced a couple of months before the India launch in the international markets, the Africa Twin CRF1100L is – as of early-2020 – up for bookings, while deliveries are set to begin in May 2020.
Available in Standard and Adventure Sports trim in the international markets, the 2020 Africa Twin in India will only be available in the latter-spec. Another talking point of the 2020 Africa Twin is that now it will be available with both Manual and DCT transmissions, while its predecessor was only available with the latter.
While there are many changes to the way it looks, it is still unmistakably an Africa Twin. It gets a revised fairing, which makes it look slimmer in comparison to the model it replaces. At the front, there is an all-new headlamp cluster as well, which integrates dual projectors and surrounding LED DRLs. Dimension-wise, it is 2,334mm in length, 932mm in width, and 1,478mm in height. It has a massive ground clearance of 250mm and a kerb weight of 245kg. The fuel tank is quite enormous too, at 24.8-litres.
Engine & Transmission
Another highlight of the all-new Africa Twin is its bigger heart. It is powered by a 1,084cc parallel-twin, good for 100.6bhp and 105Nm of torque. For reference, the older Africa Twin featured a 998cc engine, which produced lower power and torque in comparison to the newer engine. It is, of course, BS-VI compliant. It comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or a DCT automatic transmission. Since the new motorcycle is lighter than before, expect the Honda Africa Twin mileage and performance to be a step up from its predecessor.
There’s a lot here that is new as well. For instance, the Honda Africa Twin new model is now a new chassis, which now gets a bolt-on sub-frame. It rides on inverted telescopic forks at the front and a fully adjustable pro-link suspension at the back. The spoked wheel at the front is a 90/90-R21 tyre and the spoked wheel at the rear is a 150/70-R18 tyre. The braking power comes from dual 310mm disc brakes at the front and a 256mm disc brake at the rear.
The main highlight on the features front is a 6.5-inch colour TFT display, which not only displays a bevvy of rider-centric information but also features Bluetooth and Apple Carplay connectivity. Moreover, the Honda Africa Twin new model also features a 6-axis IMU with cornering ABS, wheelie control, rear lift control, and seven-level Honda Selectable Torque Control. The headlamp and taillamp are, given its pricing, both LEDs.
Price & Variants
The Honda Africa Twin is available in two variants. The Honda Africa Twin price (as of early-2020) is ₹15.35 lakh for the Adventure Sports – Manual variant, and ₹16.10 lakh for the Adventure Sports – DCT variant (ex-showroom, Delhi).
