The Honda Rebel 500 has made its way to India with a price tag of Rs 5.12 lakh, which puts it well above the notable cruiser in the city, the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650, priced at Rs 3.68 lakh. Given that the Super Meteor packs a larger engine and more features at a lower price, the key question is—can the Rebel 500 justify its premium and find a foothold in the competitive cruiser segment?

The Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 has the upper hand with its larger 648 cc air-oil cooled parallel-twin, delivering 46.37bhp at 7,250rpm and 52.3 Nm of torque at 5,650rpm. On the other hand, the Honda Rebel 500 features a smaller 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine that generates 45.59bhp at 8,500rpm and 43.3Nm at 6,000rpm.

The Rebel 500 is significantly lighter, weighing 185 kg, which makes it easier to handle, especially in tight spaces or for newer riders. In contrast, the Super Meteor 650 is much heavier at 241 kg, contributing to a more planted feel on the highway but also making it less agile in urban environments.

The seat height of the Rebel is lower at 690mm, while the Super Meteor’s 740mm seat height is designed with taller riders in mind. In terms of fuel tank capacity, the Super Meteor again takes the upper hand, with a 15.7-litre capacity that allows for longer journeys without frequent stops.

The Rebel, on the other hand, offers a smaller 11.3-litre tank, which is better suited for shorter urban rides. The wheelbase of the Super Meteor is slightly longer at 1,500mm. The Rebel, on the other hand, has a 1,488mm wheelbase.

The Rebel 500's longer front suspension travel (139mm USD) provides better bump absorption up front, whereas the Super Meteor compensates with a more generous 101mm of rear travel for enhanced comfort on longer journeys. The Super Meteor also boasts superior braking power with larger discs (320mm front/300mm rear). In comparison, the Rebel features smaller 296mm and 240mm discs.

The Honda Rebel 500 features wider 130/90 front and 150/80 rear tyres on smaller 16-inch wheels. In contrast, the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 is equipped with a 100/90-19-inch front and 150/80-16-inch rear tyre setup.

While the Honda Rebel 500 provides fundamental features like all-LED lighting and a simple LCD instrument cluster (plus a USB-C port), it lacks advanced tech like Bluetooth or integrated navigation.

The Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650, however, ups the equipment game with full LED lighting, a more informative digi-analogue console, and standard Tripper navigation on the Celestial variant. The inclusion of adjustable levers and a USB charger further adds to the practicality.

The Honda Rebel 500 is positioned at the premium end of the middleweight cruiser segment. It’s offered in a single Standard variant, finished in a Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic shade, and priced at Rs 5.12 lakh (ex-showroom).

On the other hand, the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 offers more is available in multiple colour options and variants, with prices starting from a much lower Rs 3.68 lakh. This significant price gap of over Rs 1.40 lakh makes the Super Meteor a more accessible option, especially considering it offers a larger engine and a longer list of features across its variants.
