2019 Indian FTR 1200 S Race Replica

After the bookings for the FTR 1200 S and 1200 S Race Replica commenced in December 2018, Indian Motorcycles has finally launched them in India. Prices stand at Rs 15.99 lakh and Rs 17.99 lakh, respectively

The FTR 1200 S and 1200 S Race Replica are unlike any other motorcycle from Indian Motorcycles. The American bike maker had promised to move beyond cruisers and the FTR range is the first step in that direction. Both these motorcycles are more of retro-styled flat-track race machines and they are now available in India. Bookings for both these motorcycles commenced in December 2018. The FTR 1200 S is priced at Rs 15.99 lakh while the 1200 S Race Replica costs Rs 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

Taking some inspiration from the championship-winning FTR750 race bike, this one is powered by a 1,203cc V-twin motor that pushes out 120bhp and 112.5Nm. This motor comes paired with a 6-speed transmission. Although the engine has been borrowed from the Scout, a majority of its parts are new. It even runs a different compression ratio.

The 1200 S comes with a bunch of interesting design elements. To start with, it gets three dual-tone colour options – Race Replica, Titanium Metallic over Thunder Black and Indian Motorcycle Red over Steel Grey. Unlike the motorcycles we are used to seeing from the brand, the FTR has minimal bodywork and is also considerably lighter than the cruisers on sale. Other highlights of the FTR 1200 S include fully adjustable suspension at both ends, LED lighting, and a 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen instrument cluster. In terms of safety, the 1200 S comes with ABS and a six-axis IMU with traction control.

The Indian FTR range will compete against the likes of the Ducati Scrambler 1100 and the Triumph Scrambler 1200.
