Is the Aprilia Tuono 125 ready for India launch?

The Tuono 125 has been listed on the Aprilia India website. Powered by a 124.2cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled motor that makes about 15 horses and 11Nm

It has been no secret that Aprilia has been studying the Indian market to get into the 125-150cc motorcycle space. At the Auto Expo 2018, the Italian bike maker took the wraps off the RS 150 and the Tuono 150. But since then, there has been no news of the launch of either of these two motorcycles. In fact, they weren’t showcased at the recently concluded Auto Expo 2020 too. Interestingly, the Aprilia India official website now lists the Tuono 125.

The Tuono 125 has been on sale in the international markets for a while now. As the name rightly suggests, the Tuono 125 is a lower-displacement addition to the Tuono family. With that in mind, the 125cc offering even looks identical to its litre-class sibling. At the heart, the Tuono 125 comes with a 124.2cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled fuel-injected motor that develops roughly 15bhp and 11Nm. Just like the international-spec model, the one listed in India also sits on 43mm upside down forks up front and a monoshock setup at the back. Braking duties are performed by a 300mm disc at the front and a 218mm setup at the back. ABS comes as standard in Tuono 125.  

It is noteworthy that the Tuono 125 that has been listed on the Indian website is Euro 4 compliant, which doesn’t quite comply with the upcoming BS-VI norms that will come into effect on 1st April 2020. Despite that, our sources close to the company revealed that the motorcycle is expected to be launched towards the end of the year at a price tag of around Rs 1.25-1.35 lakh. We have spoken to Aprilia and are waiting for more concrete information and clarity about the Tuono 125’s India launch. Stay tuned.
