Kawasaki has introduced the Ninja 7, which is claimed to be the world's first mass-produced hybrid motorcycle, to the European market. Powering the hybrid electric motorcycle is a 451cc parallel-twin water-cooled 4-stroke engine and a 9kW electric motor with a 48V lithium-ion battery. The Japanese manufacturer claims that the combined power output of the bike is around 58bhp, which can increase to 69bhp using an e-boost function (active for 15 seconds at a time). The petrol mill, alone, produces about 46bhp. Also, the Ninja 7 Hybrid has ditched the traditional clutch-gear shifter in favour of paddle shifters on the left-hand side, just like Honda's DCT bikes. Introduced in 2010, the DCT (dual-clutch transmission) technology first appeared with the Honda VFR1200F.

Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid: Other Features

Other bits on the Ninja 7 include an idle stop function for saving fuel, a forward and reverse 'walk mode' for low-speed manoeuvres and parking, an Automatic Launch Position Finder, which enables the rider to select first gear with the push of a button, and 3 riding modes – EV, Eco Hybrid, and Sport Hybrid. There is also a full-colour TFT screen, borrowed from the Ninja e-1, with Bluetooth connectivity for notifications and navigation alerts.

Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid: Chassis, Hardware

The Ninja 7 Hybrid's parallel-twin engine is nestled in a steel trellis frame, with the 48V battery pack positioned near the centre for better weight management of the bike. The suspension setup of the Ninja 7 consists of a telescopic fork at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. Just like the Ninja 400 and the Ninja 650, the hybrid motorcycle gets the same dual front discs with Nissin callipers. The bike rides on 17-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, shod with tubeless Dunlop Sportmax Q5A tyres.

Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid: Styling

The motorcycle borrows its dual-pod headlight and surrounding body from the 2024 Ninja ZX-6R, whereas the fairing-mounted turn indicators resemble those on the Ninja 400. The undercowl is finished in Matte Lime Green, while the body panels get a silver-black finish.

According to Kawasaki, the Ninja 7 Hybrid is a mid-size product with performance comparable to a 650 – 700cc bike and acceleration to rival a 1,000cc-class supersport bike from a standstill. However, it yields a fuel economy similar to a 250cc bike. As of now, Kawasaki has revealed only a few details of the Ninja 7 Hybrid.
