KTM 890 Duke R Development

The Austrian motorcycle maker has confirmed that there will exist a segment under the 790 Duke. The new 750 Duke will be launched in KTM’s primary markets, and an adventure tourer will follow soon.

KTM has confirmed that the company is working on an all-new middle-weight motorcycle platform, which will be positioned a notch below the KTM 790 Duke. The new platform will also house an all-new engine. It goes without saying that the new powerplant will be Euro 5 (BS6) compliant. This move is very similar to what we have witnessed in the recent past with Triumph motorcycles. The British motorcycle maker recently launched the Trident 660 in India, which is the most affordable roadster, undercutting the Street Triple R. The new 750cc platform from KTM is expected to spawn a street naked, an adventure tourer, and a supermoto form of motorcycle.

The KTM 790 range of motorcycles is likely to phase out, as the 890 range exists in most of KTM’s primary markets. There have been spy shots of the next generation KTM 390 Duke, or possibly a parallel-twin 490, which is expected to break cover by the end of this year. The new middleweight KTM 750cc range will incorporate both the performance factor of the 890 Duke and the value-for-money quotient of the 390 Duke and bridge the space between the two.

The production will begin soon in China at the KTM-CFMoto’s production facility. The motorcycles will be sold in KTM’s successful markets most likely via the CKD route. There is no official confirmation from KTM India about the launch of the 750cc range in India. However, KTM India is likely to prioritize the launch of 890 Duke, along with the new-generation models of the Duke and RC 390. The 750 Duke will possibly be unveiled by the end of this year, and the launch could take place in early 2022.
