Ever since the BS-IV norms kicked in, Royal Enfield hasn't sold a single unit of the Himalayan in the country. The manufacturer is expected to commence the sale of the BS-IV compliant Himalayan from August 2017.

Royal Enfield has temporarily suspended the sales of the Himalayan in India. From April 2017, the manufacturer hasn’t sold a single unit of its adventure-tourer in the country. So, you might be wondering as to what’s reason behind this? You see, while Royal Enfield hasn’t officially released any statement regarding the matter, it’s reported that the manufacturer hasn’t started selling the BS-IV variants of the motorcycle in India as yet. The company is expected to resume the sales of the Himalayan starting August 2017.

The government banned the sale of BS-III vehicles in India from April 2017. Which meant the original Himalayan could no longer be sold in our market. However, Royal Enfield updated the specifications of the Himalayan on its official website, showing that the motorcycle now gets fuel injection instead of a carburettor. The modifications in the fueling system were, of course, carried out so as meet cleaner BS-IV norms.

However, between then and now, Royal Enfield hasn’t put the updated motorcycle on sale in the country. At first, it was expected to make it to showrooms by May 2017, but now it’s been reportedly delayed to August 2017. Apart from adding a fuel injection system, Royal Enfield is also believed to be working around other problems relating to the motorcycle - based on the feedback received from existing customers.

Changes pertaining to the powertrain won’t have any significant effect on the Himalayan's performance since the 411cc air-cooled engine will continue to develop 24.5bhp of max power and 32Nm of peak torque. Expect it to have a smoother throttle response and better fuel economy than before, though - thanks to the fuel injection system.

Royal Enfield hasn’t officially communicated the price of the updated Himalayan, but expect it to cost around Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 more than the BS-III model.
