Simple One Electric Scooter Deliveries Begin in India, Price Starts at Rs 1.45 Lakh

Simple Energy has commenced deliveries of its all-electric scooter, the One. Bookings for the scooter opened in August 2021, and its price was initially pegged at Rs 1.09 lakh (ex-showroom). However, it took around 2 years for the Bengaluru-based EV company to finally release its product in the Indian market, owing to government clampdowns and the introduction of the updated Automotive Industry Standards (AIS). As planned by the company, the Simple One was delivered to the first set of customers in Bengaluru, and this will be followed by other cities in a phased manner. Additionally, Simple Energy plans to expand its footprint in 40 to 50 cities throughout the country in the next 12 months through a network of 160 to 180 retail stores. 

Launched at Rs 1.45 lakh (ex-showroom), the scooter has already amassed over 1 lakh pre-bookings in 18 months. But, buyers going for a 750W charger have to shell out an extra Rs 13,000. Coming to the colour palette, the One scooter is offered in Namma Red, Brazen Black, Azure Blue, Grace White, BrazenX, and LightX colour schemes.

Simple One Electric Scooter: Drivetrain

According to Simple Energy, the One scooter is characterised by its long-range, unique design, and dual battery pack. Powered by an IP67-rated 5kWh lithium-ion dual battery pack, the Simple One delivers an IDC-claimed range of up to 212 kilometres on a full charge. This makes it the longest-range electric two-wheeler in the country. 

The electric scooter is equipped with an 8.5kW electric motor, churning out 11.4bhp of maximum power and 72Nm of peak torque. As per the company, it can accelerate from 0 to 40km/h in 2.77 seconds and tops out at 105km/h. 

The battery can be charged from 0 to 80 per cent in 5 hours and 54 minutes, using a portable charger. Besides, it also gets a fast charger that can charge the scooter up to 80 per cent at the rate of 1.5km per minute.

Simple One Electric Scooter: Prices, Competition

The Simple One scooter asks for Rs 1.45 lakh, but with a 750W charger, it commands a price of Rs 1.58 lakh. Prices are ex-showroom. In terms of rivalry, it competes with the River Indie, the TVS iQube, the Vida V1, the Ather 450X, and the Ola S1 Pro.

Simple One Electric Scooter: Features 

In terms of suspension, the Simple One features telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock at the rear. For braking, the scooter has a single 200mm front disc and a 190mm rear disc. Other notable features include all-LED lighting, a Wi-Fi-enabled coloured TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity, and 4 ride modes -  Eco, Dash, Ride, and Sonic. The scooter sits on 12-inch alloy wheels.
