Yamaha has expanded its presence in the 150–160cc motorcycle segment with the new XSR155. While it shares the same underpinnings as the popular MT-15 V2, the XSR155 distinguishes itself with its neo-retro styling. In contrast, the MT-15 V2 has a bold, aggressive naked-bike appearance. If you’re torn between the vintage charm of the XSR155 and the modern, aggressive appeal of the MT-15 V2, here’s a detailed spec comparison that will help you determine the best option that suits your riding style.
The most striking difference between the two motorcycles lies in their design. The newly-introduced XSR155 channels a neo-retro aesthetic inspired by Yamaha’s premium XSR lineup, featuring a round LED headlight, a sculpted teardrop fuel tank, and a flat, single-piece seat that encourages a relaxed, upright riding posture. It comes in four appealing shades: Metallic Grey, Vivid Red, Greyish Green Metallic, and Metallic Blue.

On the other hand, the MT-15 V2 exudes a bold, futuristic persona with a sharp bi-functional LED projector headlamp, muscular fuel tank with aggressive shrouds, and an upswept tail paired with a split-seat layout, projecting the unmistakable presence of a streetfighter. As for the colours, the MT-15 V2 is also available with multiple options, including Metallic Black, Metallic Silver Cyan, Metallic Black DLX, Ice Storm DLX, and Vivid Violet Metallic Black.
Both the XSR155 and MT-15 V2 are powered by Yamaha’s 155cc, liquid-cooled, SOHC, 4-valve engine equipped with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) technology. The unit produces 18.14bhp at 10,000rpm and 14.2Nm of torque at 7,500rpm, and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and an Assist & Slipper (A&S) clutch. The XSR155 tips the scales at 137 kg kerb, roughly 4 kg less than the MT-15 V2.
Both the XSR155 and MT-15 V2 are built on Yamaha’s proven Deltabox frame. They are equipped with upside-down (USD) front forks, a linked rear monoshock, and disc brakes at the front and rear, supported by dual-channel ABS.
The XSR155 comes in a single variant but offers two accessory packs: Scrambler and Café Racer. These packs enable riders to customise their bike. In contrast, the MT-15 is available in multiple variants, catering to a wider range of preferences.

Features-wise, both Yamaha bikes get dual-channel ABS and traction control. While the XSR155 takes a simpler approach with a negative LCD instrument cluster that works with Yamaha’s Y-Connect app, the MT-15’s top-spec variant comes with a full-colour TFT display that supports smartphone connectivity, including turn-by-turn navigation.
