Hyundai's luxury arm, Genesis, has revealed the third-gen G80 sedan. It's based on a new platform and features sharper styling and a more luxurious cabin, among other updates.

Hyundai’s luxury car brand, Genesis, has revealed the 2021 G80 sedan. This new G80 is the third-gen version of the luxury sedan and features sharper design cues and a new cabin layout – similar to the recently unveiled GV80 SUV and G90 sedan.

The main highlight of the new model is its double-lined Quadlamp design that dominates the front-end. Genesis’ brand new ‘Crest Grille’ has also been introduced in the new G80. The sedan, in the variant shown here, rides on 20-inch alloy wheels, which look very classy, we've to say. The Quadlamp theme continues at the back, while the coupe-like roofline gives the G80 a very distinctive and sporty look.

The interior layout is inspired by its new-gen siblings, as the sedan features a similar 14.5-inch infotainment display. There’s a generous use of wood, leather, and brushed aluminium in the interior. Overall, the cabin layout follows a minimalistic theme, and there aren’t many buttons or knobs.

The G80 is based on the same platform as GV80 SUV, albeit Genesis hasn’t revealed the powertrain options available with the sedan as yet. That said, expect it to have the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine as the GV80, which is rated at 300bhp and produces 422Nm of torque. Similarly, the diesel version should also feature the SUV's 3.0-litre six-cylinder unit that develops 274bhp and 588Nm of torque. Like the GV80, expect the G80 to be offered with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The new Genesis G80 will go on sale in South Korea by the end of March 2020. The luxury sedan is unlikely to come to India anytime soon, but its sibling, the GV80, is reportedly being considered for the Indian market, as Hyundai is currently evaluating the prospects of introducing its luxury brand in India.
