With 612bhp on tap, the 2022 Audi R8 Coupé V10 GT arrives as the most powerful rear-wheel drive unit in the history of the brand.

Twelve years after the first R8 GT appeared on the scene, Audi has now revealed the 2022 R8 Coupé V10 GT RWD – the swansong to the famed 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated TFSI V10. And to give the engine a proper send-off, the V10's output has been increased to 612bhp (from the V10 Performance RWD's 562bhp), making the 2022 R8 GT the most powerful rear-wheel drive version of the supercar in the brand's history. And, with 565Nm of torque sent exclusively to the rear wheels, the R8 GT accelerates from 0 – 100km/h in 3.4 seconds. The top speed is set to 320km/h.

The R8 V10 GT RWD also comes with a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with even faster shift times. Thanks to an altered gear ratio, the new gearbox allows even more impressive acceleration in all gears. Plus, for the first time, the new R8 GT comes with a Torque Rear mode for 'controlled oversteering'. In this mode, slippage is controlled on the rear axle by the traction control system via seven pre-set levels – Level One allows little slippage, while Level Seven allows maximum slippage.

Compared to the R8 Coupé V10 Performance RWD, the 2022 R8 GT RWD is also lighter by 20kgs. This has been achieved by using lightweight forged 20-inch wheels, ceramic brakes, bucket seats, and performance sports suspension with the carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) anti-roll bar.

Visually, the 2022 R8 GT's special treatment comes in the form of a black-painted intake manifold, black 'R8 GT' lettering on the rear, a Carbon Aerokit comprising a front splitter, side skirt covers, a diffuser, and a rear wing with gooseneck suspension. Like its predecessor, the new R8 GT comes in matte Suzuka Grey.

The new R8 GT will have a limited production run of just 333 units worldwide, with each unit featuring sequential numbering and an interior in a combination of black and red.
