If rumours are to be believed, Ford Ranger pick-up's India arrival is on the cards. So, can we expect it to be the swanky 2022 version?

More news from the Blue Oval. If you are worried about the American marque's exit from the Indian market, this news might just turn your frown upside-down. That's because Ford (UK) has officially revealed a teaser of the upcoming 2022 Ranger pick-up, confirming that the next-gen model will make its debut by the end of the year and will be launched in 2022.

Now, we agree that this news might not seem of much relevance to those in India. But if you're up to date with Ford India's latest announcement, you'll know that this could potentially be relevant for us. That's because Ford has confirmed its continued presence in India as an importer of some really cool and niche products, if not as a local manufacturer. Therefore, the brand has already confirmed models like the Mustang and the all-electric Mustang Mach E for India. And if some reports are to be believed, Ford is also planning to tap into the pick-up truck segment here – where brands like Isuzu are currently enjoying a monopoly – by bringing the Ranger to our shores.

Why the Ranger, you ask? That's because it's basically a spruced-up version of the Endeavour – they share the same basic innards. In a pick-up form though, the Ranger offers a bit more pizzazz over a standard SUV like the Endeavour. So, there's a good chance that Ford might actually launch the 2022 Ranger here, for it's going to arrive via the CBU route in any case.

If this is true – it's yet to be confirmed – then the next question is whether it's going to be the standard Ranger or its hellraiser sibling, the Ranger Raptor. Well, we'll dig into this later when we have more confirmed information on the matter. In the meantime, you can read more about our Italian partner Quattroruote's day out with the 211bhp Ford Ranger Raptor here.
