2023 Kia Seltos Launched at Rs 10.89 Lakh; 1.4L Turbo-Petrol Engine Discontinued

Kia India has updated the majority of its model lineup to meet the upcoming RDE and BS6 Phase 2 emission standards, which will go into effect on April 1, 2023. The refreshed Seltos receives a new feature, a new transmission option, and a significant price increase in addition to an updated engine.

Kia Seltos Left Side and Front View

The 2023 Seltos SUV from Kia has been launched in the country. After the price revision, the Seltos is now available at Rs 10.89 lakh for the entry-level HTE petrol MT variant and as much as Rs 19.65 lakh for the highest-spec X-Line Diesel AT variant. Both prices are ex-showroom. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol and turbo-diesel engines are the only ones left in the Seltos' lineup. These are the biggest updates to the vehicle's powertrain, which now includes RDE and E20 fuel-compliant engines. It is important to note that the 140bhp, 1.4-litre turbo engine has been dropped from the lineup, so there isn't currently a turbo-petrol engine available with the SUV. This update has resulted in a Rs 20,000 price surge for the entry-level petrol variant and a Rs 25,000 increase for all other petrol variants. Further, a Rs 50,000 price increase has been implemented for all diesel models.

Despite being on the market for more than three years, the Kia Seltos continues to be a top seller in its class, with an average waiting time of more than three months. The facelifted Seltos is expected to debut in the second quarter of 2023, possibly around June, though the carmaker is silent on the exact date. With the Seltos facelift, new styling elements and additional safety technology like ADAS will be included. At that time, anticipate another increase in price. Read on to know more about the 2023 Seltos's variants, specs, features, and more.

2023 Kia Seltos: Variants

The Seltos is still available in seven trims (HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX+, and X Line) and three versions (Tech Line, GT Line, and X Line). A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard on all Tech Line trims, with the exception of the HTX+, which also offers a CVT as an option. The NA petrol engine is available on all Tech Line trims. The diesel engine, meanwhile, is offered on all seven trims; the Tech Line trims come with the 6-speed iMT gearbox, while the HTX, GTX+, and X Line trims have the 6-speed AT gearbox. Formerly available with the turbo-petrol engine, the GT Line and X Line trims are now only offered with the diesel-AT powertrain.

2023 Kia Seltos: Powertrain Details

The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with 115bhp of maximum power and 144Nm of peak torque, and the 1.5-litre diesel engine with a maximum output of 116bhp and 250Nm are the only available engines for the Seltos going forward. The diesel engine's output has increased by 1bhp as a result, but more significantly, the 6-speed manual gearbox that was previously available as standard across the range has been replaced by a 6-speed iMT unit. The 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission for the diesel engine has been retained. With regard to the NA petrol engine, both CVT automatic and 6-speed manual gearboxes are still available. However, buyers who want a turbo-petrol engine on the Seltos will have to wait. It is unknown when Kia will actually install the new 160bhp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine in the Seltos, despite the fact that it has already been installed in the Alcazar and the Carens. It might just come with the facelift that will go on sale around mid-2023. The Creta, a sibling of the Seltos, will also get this new 1.5-litre turbo engine.
