Pre-orders for BMW's next all-electric sedan, the i5 M60 xDrive, are now open in India. The car will arrive on our shores via the Completely Built-Up (CBU) route and is anticipated to hit the market in the upcoming months. It is important to note that the performance-focused model will be sold here in limited numbers. Interested buyers can reserve the car via the BMW dealership network or the BMW Online Shop. The nationwide deliveries for the EV will begin in May this year.

Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India said, “We are very excited to announce the pre-launch bookings of the first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive in India. The BMW i5 M60 xDrive is an epic athlete - it captivates from start to finish, and leads with elegant design, innovative technology and dynamic performance. BMW Group India has been a leader in the electric luxury car segment for two consecutive years, offering the most versatile portfolio - BMW i7, BMW iX, BMW i4, BMW iX1 and MINI SE. With the introduction of the first-ever BMW i5 M60 xDrive, we will further enhance the exceptionally diverse and innovative lineup of electric vehicles, and strengthen BMW Group India’s position in the Indian electric luxury car segment.”

BMW i5 M60 xDrive: Battery Pack and Range Details

Mechanically, the BMW i5 M60 xDrive comes with an additional front-wheel-drive motor producing 600bhp of maximum power and 820Nm of peak torque. It is nearly as potent as the on-sale M5 Competition. The vehicle can reach a top speed of 230km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds. With a 205kW DC fast charger, the 81.2kWh battery pack onboard can be fully charged from 10 to 80 per cent in about 30 minutes. As for the range, the M60 xDrive variant can travel up to 516 kilometres (on the WLTP cycle). The rear end of the i5 is equipped with a special self-leveling air suspension system with damping that depends on spring travel. Furthermore, active stabilisation comes as standard on the M60, and adjustable dampers can be opted for.

On the design front, the iconic kidney grille is derived from the classic 'shark nose' BMWs, but the aggressive LED headlamps are among the new design elements. Similar ducts move air away from the wheels to lessen turbulence in the lower front. The lower front is comparable, with a duct that directs wind away from the wheels to prevent turbulence. As this i5 bears the 'M' insignia, it has 21-inch M-specific wheels.

BMW i5 M60 xDrive: Features List

Standard features include a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a large widescreen infotainment system with a 12.3-inch screen behind the steering wheel. Along with the latest version of iDrive running on BMW's 8.5 OS, there's also an option to play games directly on the screen. Additionally, the ventilation and air conditioning are managed by a thin touch-sensitive strip that runs beneath the instrument panel, just like it does on the 7 Series.

Last month, the luxury automaker launched the iX xDrive50 at Rs 1.40 crore (ex-showroom). There are currently two variants on offer for the SUV, which was the company's first EV to be introduced in 2021. While the xDrive50 is the highest-spec model in the range, BMW sells the xDrive40 version as well. The latter carries a price tag of Rs 1.20 crore (ex-showroom).
