BMW India has enhanced the performance of its iX electric SUV with a more potent variant called the xDrive50. The new top-of-the-line model of the e-SUV is priced at Rs 1.40 crore—more than its counterpart—the iX xDrive40—which retails for Rs 1.21 crore. Both are ex-showroom figures. The newly released version of the iX has a longer range, improved performance, and a few additional features. Bookings for this model are now open at all recognised dealerships. For those who are unaware, the BMW iX SUV is the German brand's first EV, which launched here in 2021. While the car was previously offered in a single xDrive40 version, the new and more formidable xDrive50 has now joined the roster to keep things interesting for automotive aficionados. So, without further ado, let's see what the brand-new version brings to the table.

BMW iX xDrive50: A Glance At Looks and Features

In terms of design, the iX xDrive50 is very similar to the iX xDrive40. The closed-off massive BMW kidney grille, slender LED headlights with twin-bar LED daytime running lights, and bumper design remain unchanged. However, from the side, the new and larger 22-inch alloys distinguish this as the more powerful version of the e-SUV. The rear design remains intact, with only the xDrive50 logo. Similar to the exterior, the new variant of the BMW EV is pretty similar to the xDrive40. It has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.9-inch touchscreen, and crystal switches on the centre console and doors, among others.

The majority of the features found on the xDrive40 are included in the newly launched more powerful variant. These are the advanced driver assistance systems, ventilated front seats, powered front seats with massage functions, an electrochromic panoramic glass roof, a power-adjustable steering column, a head-up display, the Harman Kardon Sound system, and a four-zone climate control. However, the iX xDrive50 stands out from its sibling with its adjustable air suspension system, capable of self-levelling and raising the suspension as needed.

BMW iX xDrive50: Powertrain and More

Power and performance are the two areas where the iX xDrive50 differs most from the iX xDrive40. Compared to the iX xDrive40, which has a 76.6kWh battery and a range of 425 kilometers, the new model has a WLTP-certified range of 635 kilometres thanks to its massive 111.5kWh battery pack. The recently introduced model's dual-motor all-wheel drive system has a combined output of 516bhp and 765Nm, which is 194bhp and 135Nm more than its sibling. The maximum speed stays at 200km/h, while the acceleration from 0 to 100km/h is 4.6 seconds.

According to BMW, a 195kW DC charger can charge the battery from 10 to 80% in only 35 minutes, whereas a 50kW charger will take 97 minutes to complete the same task. In the meantime, it will take roughly 5.5 hours for a 22kW AC charger and 11 hours for an 11kW to top up the model.

The German automaker's iX xDrive50 comes with a two-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and five years of roadside support. In addition, the batteries have a standard eight-year/1.6 lakh warranty.
