The brand-new BYD Seal has surpassed 200 bookings in India within a week. The Chinese carmaker commenced reservations for the electric sedan for Rs 1.25 lakh on February 28. It rolled out the EV for purchase in our market on March 5, with an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 41 lakh. At this pricing, the BYD Seal undercuts several competitors, including the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (Rs 46.05 lakh), and the Kia EV6 (Rs 60.95 lakh), among others. This could be one of the reasons for the increased demand for BYD's premium sedan in our market. The four-door EV is available in three different variants: entry-level Dynamic, mid-level Premium, and higher-spec Performance, with prices of Rs 41 lakh, Rs 45.55 lakh, and Rs 53 lakh, respectively. All these are ex-showroom figures.

The car uses BYD's e-Platform 3.0 and comes with two battery packs (61.4kWh and 82.5kWh). The Seal's base Dynamic model is powered by a smaller 61.44kWh battery, which drives the rear wheels. It produces 201bhp and 310Nm and offers a range of 510 kilometres.

Meanwhile, a larger 82.56kWh battery powers the BYD Seal Premium's rear wheels and generates 360Nm and 308bhp. At 650 kilometres, the Premium model has the longest range in the series. In contrast, the top-of-the-line Performance model has two electric motors (front and rear) and all-wheel drive. But, it features the same larger battery pack as the mid-spec version. The top-spec variant produces 523bhp and 670Nm and claims a range of 580 kilometres.

The key exterior highlights of the BYD Seal include a sloping roofline, electronic hidden flush door handles, 19-inch dual-tone alloy rims with diamond cuts, and a rear LED bar that spans the length of the bonnet.
