Here's a list of some of the most popular electric cars that were launched in India in 2022.

With so many electric cars launched in India, we can expect someday the nation will have a leading status in the global EV market. Be it Tata Motors or BMW, a lot of established carmakers are contributing to India's EV growth across segments. Following is a short list of some of the most popular electric cars that were launched in India in 2022.

Tata Tigor EV

The updated Tigor EV boasts a price tag of ₹12.49 lakh to ₹13.75 lakh (ex-showroom). It is equipped with a 26kWh battery pack and an electric motor that's rated at 73.9bhp and develops 170Nm of torque. It receives the same Ziptron EV technology as the Nexon EV. The battery pack of the Tigor EV can be charged from 0 to 80% in 8.5 hours with a standard wall charger and in 60 minutes with a 25kW DC fast charger. Additionally, it has an ARAI-claimed range of 315 kilometres in this updated version. The EV is available in four trims: XE, XT, XZ+, and XZ+ Lux. It also comes equipped with ABS with EBD, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, and more for ensuring passenger safety.

Tata Nexon EV Max

The electric car comes at a price tag of ₹18.34 lakh to ₹20.04 lakh (ex-showroom). The model comes in two trims: XZ+ and XZ+ Lux. The top-end variant XZ+ Lux can also be availed in the Jet edition. Powering this car is a 40.5kWh battery pack, and an electric motor making 141bhp and 250Nm. Further, the EV Max has an ARAI-certified range of 437 Kilometres. This electric vehicle boasts a seating capacity of 5 passengers. It comes with two home charging options namely, 3.3kW and 7.2kW. Hill hold control, hill descent control, all-wheel disc brakes, dual front airbags, are some of its main safety features.

MG ZS EV

The price of MG ZS EV ranges from ₹22.58 lakh to ₹26.50 lakh (ex-showroom). The MG ZS EV comes in two trims, Excite and Exclusive. The model has a 50.3kWh battery pack and electric motor that makes 174bhp and 280Nm. It claims a range of 461 kilometres. ABS with EBD, six airbags, hill descent control, etc. are part of its safety net. 

BYD Atto 3

The BYD Atto 3 is available in a single trim and is priced at ₹33.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric car is powered by a 60.48kWh battery pack which powers an electric motor rated at 201bhp and 310Nm. The electric four-wheeler boasts an ARAI range of 521 kilometres and is a front-wheel drive. In a span of 7.3 seconds, it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. There are three charging options available: a 7kW AC charger, an 80kW DC charger, and a 3kW AC portable charger. The Atto 3 has a 440-litre boot that can be expanded to 1,340-litre by folding down the second row. When it comes to safety, the electric car boasts ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, ISOFIX child-seat anchorages, seven airbags, etc. 

Kia EV6

The Kia EV6 prices range between ₹59.95 lakh and ₹64.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric vehicle has a seating capacity to accommodate up to five passengers. The Kia EV6 is available in a single top-tier GT version. It's available in two trims: GT Line RWD & GT Line AWD. The 77.4kWh battery pack powers the India-spec EV6. The single-motor rear-wheel drive variant offers 225bhp and 350Nm while the dual-motor all-wheel drive is rated at 320bhp and 605Nm. The ARAI-claimed range of the EV6 is 708 kilometres. Blind spot monitoring, eight airbags, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control, are standard safety systems in the EV6.

BMW i4

BMW I4 2022 1

The all-electric BMW sedan was launched in India earlier this year with a sticker price of ₹69.9 lakh. The model comes in a single trim option, eDrive40. The EV is fitted with an 83.9kWh battery pack and features an electric motor that serves 335bhp of peak power and 430Nm of torque. It's a WLTP-claimed range of 590 Kilometres.  Six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, and more are standard safety features in the BMW i4
