Hyundai has stepped into the prime seven-seater SUV space with the debut of the Alcazar.

Hyundai has finally launched the Alcazar – a rival to the Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus – at an introductory price range of Rs 16.30 – 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The SUV has been launched in three trim levels – Prestige, Platinum, and Signature. The Prestige and the Platinum trims will retail at all Hyundai India’s outlets, while the range-topping Signature trim will be sold only at Hyundai’s ‘Signature Club’ outlets.

While the Hyundai Alcazar is heavily based on the same platform as the Hyundai Creta, it can accommodate two more passengers, which makes it a seven-seater SUV. The Alcazar can also be had with a six-seater layout, which offers captain seats in the second row with a fixed centre console. Hyundai India has already commenced bookings for the Alcazar at a token price of Rs 25,000 across all authorised dealerships.

The interior sports a tan-and-black colour combination while retaining the same dashboard design as seen in the Hyundai Creta. The Alcazar gets a premium all-digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a drop-down utility board with a retractable cup holder for second-row passengers, and an air purifier with an AQI display, which is similar to that in other Hyundai cars. Furthermore, the Hyundai Alcazar gets eight-way power seats and 64 ambient lighting colours. Hyundai has also equipped the Alcazar with a nifty IT device holder. Other features include a puddle lamp and an eight-speaker Bose premium sound system.

Alcazar is offered with two engine options – a 1.5-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol engine. The diesel engine – the same as the one found in the Hyundai Creta – churns out 113bhp and 250Nm, while the petrol motor is good for 157bhp and 191Nm. Both engines come paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. We have already driven the Hyundai Alcazar, and here is a preview of how the new SUV drives.

The Hyundai Alcazar aims to targets those looking for a seven-seater SUV and even an MPV, like the Toyota Innova Crysta. Its prices at Rs 16.52 lakh (ex-showroom).
