Hyundai Exter Micro SUV Front-end Design Officially Revealed Ahead of India Debut

Hyundai has teased the front-end design of the Exter Micro SUV ahead of its debut in India. Mechanically, the upcoming SUV will be a petrol-only offering. However, a CNG and electric powertrain could be offered later.

Hyundai India has officially unveiled the front-end design of the upcoming Exter. The fresh design image offers a sneak peek into the modern front-fascia of the Micro SUV, which will lock horns with the Tata Punch after its launch in India. According to the official image, the upcoming vehicle will sport Hyundai's existing Sensuous Sportiness design language. Further, in terms of design, the entry-level SUV of the company will take inspiration from the same segment models available in overseas markets. According to industry reports, Hyundai will not only produce the Exter for our market but for other nations as well. It will likely roll on the Indian streets by August, as the model, is expected to go into production in July 2023. Mr. Tarun Garg, COO, of Hyundai Motor India Ltd., referred to the design of the Micro SUV as ''evocative and dynamic''. He further stated that the modern and playful design of the SUV will meet the aspirations of the young Gen Z customers in the market. Hyundai Exter: Front-end Design  

The upcoming SUV from Hyundai will feature a Sensuous Sportiness design. Outside, it will sport a parametric grille and split headlamps. With distinctive H-LED DRLs, the entry-level SUV will boast a commanding front-end appearance, according to the South Korean automaker. In addition, it will have creases and chiselled surfaces. Aside from this, Hyundai has given the new SUV a green paint scheme and a Venue-like shape. It has received a sleek look on the sides thanks to blacked-out roof rails and A-pillars, as well as turn indicators built into the body-colored ORVMs. According to the design teaser, there will be a false silver skid plate, wide wheel arches, and a window line that resembles those of the Hyundai Venue and even the Casper marketed abroad.  

Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Tarun Garg, COO, of Hyundai Motor India Ltd., stated, ''Exuding elements of Parametric Dynamism, Hyundai Exter is set to define new aspirations of young Gen Z customers that are looking to own a modern and youthful SUV. Forming a seamless amalgamation of Hyundai’s SUV DNA and Global Design Identity of Sensuous Sportiness, Hyundai Exter is coming soon to fuel your wanderlust.”

Hyundai Exter: Engine 

Mechanically speaking, the new SUV from Hyundai is likely to come with a 1.2 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, similar to the Nios, Aura, i20, and Venue, capable of delivering 82bhp. A 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox are likely to be available as gearbox choices. Contrary to the Nios, the Exter is anticipated to receive a second engine option, which will be a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. There is no official update yet, however, the SUV could also get CNG and electric options later.

Hyundai Exter: Price, Rivals & Availability 

According to recent market predictions, the Exter will be priced similarly to the Punch, which has an ex-showroom pricing between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 9.47 lakh. The Exter pricing (ex-showroom) may be between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 9.5 lakh for India. It's anticipated that the Hyundai Exter would debut in India around the holiday season. In terms of market rivalry, the Hyundai Exter will go up against the Tata Punch and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis.
