India-spec Toyota Hilux revealed

The Toyota Hilux has been officially unveiled and will be launched in March 2022. Deliveries of the new Toyota Hilux are likely to begin by the Q2 of 2022.

We were expecting Toyota India to make an official price announcement of the Hilux today, the launch of which has been scheduled for March 2022. Until Hilux’s debut in March, it is the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross that will dominate the premium pickup segment. Toyota has officially commenced bookings for the new Hilux today.

So far, Toyota India has just revealed the specs and features of the upcoming Hilux. It has been confirmed that the Hilux will be launched with a 2.8-litre diesel engine which will be paired to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter auto-box. The power output will be north of 200bhp. The manual version will pack a slightly lower torque of 420Nm, whereas the automatic will push out 500Nm. There are two drive modes – Power and Eco – which can change the response of the engine.

The pickup will feature the 4x4 system, with an LSD (Limited Slip Differential) and a differential lock. The Hilux has also been equipped with a tyre angle monitor and has a 700mm water wading capacity.

Its features include dual-zone climate control, parking sensors on both ends, an 8-inch touch screen infotainment system, which also gets Apple Carplay and Android Auto, and projector headlamps. It will have 18-inch alloys as standard.

There will be a host of accessories offered with the new pickup. Although a complete list of aftermarket accessories will be shared post the launch of the new Hilux in March.

In other news, reports online have stated that Toyota is readying a mid-size compact SUV for the Indian market. The product will be essentially be positioned alongside the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and MG Astor. The upcoming mid-size Toyota SUV is likely to be co-developed with Maruti Suzuki.
