The trail-rated Jeep Compass is here; however, the SUV is available in only one variant, and there is no option of a petrol motor. What it gets is an impressive amount of off-road gear.

The facelifted Jeep Compass Trailhawk is finally here and the price for the updated crossover off-roader is at Rs 30.72 lakh (ex-showroom). Jeep confirms that this is the introductory price and the cost is expected to be revised in the coming months.

However, the price of the 2022 Compass Trailhawk is Rs 1.38 lakh more than the predecessor model which was on sale in the BS4 era.

The new Trailhawk is based on the Compass’ S variant in terms of features, but Jeep has upgraded its off-road kit with redesigned bumpers, long-travel suspension and a revised crawling gear ratio.

The new Trailhawk features newly styled headlamps and a grille. The front and the rear bumpers have been sharply chiselled in order to offer an improved approach and departure angle. Trailhawk gets 30 degree of approach clearance and 34 degree of departure compared to 16.8 degree and  31.7 degree on the standard Compass.

The suspensions have been returned and raised which offer an improved breakover angle of 24 degree compared to the 22.9 degree of the regular Compass. This has also improved the ground clearance which is now set at 205mm – 25mm more than the standard Compass.

Due to the raised suspension, the overall stance of the Compass has been lifted up which has also improved the water wading depth of the SUV. – 2022 Compass Trailhawk water wading depth of 483mm.

The Trailhawk also gets more underbody protection compared to the standard Compass and Jeep has also added a ‘Rock’ mode into the multiple terrain response modes which the Compass already gets. The Trailhawk also gets smaller 17-inch redesigned alloys which in turn offer more side-wall; something which is very necessary in off-roading.

The drivetrain includes a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine which is the same unit from the predecessor, but this time, it has been tuned to meet the stringent BS6 emission norms. The gearbox is the same nine-speed torque converter automatic, but the transmission features a 20:1 crawl ratio which will offer better traction over rough terrain. The power output of this diesel mill is the same 168bhp and 350Nm; that said, the Trailhawk is not available with a petrol motor.

We shall soon be driving the new Jeep Compass Trailhawk and bring you a comprehensive first drive report. Stay tuned.
