Jeep India revises its entire CBU range

Alongside getting more affordable, the Jeep Grand Cherokee also gains a new 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) launched the Jeep brand in India in 2016 with Wrangler and Grand Cherokee SUVs. However, with both the models being brought in India via the CBU route, the pricing was exorbitant.

Now, FCA has officially revealed the post-GST prices of both - Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. As with other premium SUVs, its all good news here. The starting price of the Grand Cherokee is now Rs. 75.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), which is significantly lower than the SUV’s launch price of Rs. 93.64 lakh. Similarly, the Wrangler diesel’s starting price has also been reduced by Rs. 7 lakh.

In addition to the revised price range, FCA also announced a soft launch of the petrol version of the Grand Cherokee. The petrol Grand Cherokee draws its power from a 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine, dubbed ‘Pentastar’. This motor pumps 285 horses and 347Nm of torque.

There is a new ‘Gen II’ 8-speed automatic gearbox, which will perform duty on both petrol and diesel versions of the Grand Cherokee. Jeep claims that this transmission is engineered to deliver improved overall performance resulting in less drag on the clutches. Its optimized lubrication has improved clutch durability, shift response, consistency enabling smoother quality downshifts.

That’s not all, Jeep will also offer a new Air Suspension system as standard on the Grand Cherokee range, alongside an updated electric power steering, that replaces the electro-hydraulic power steering system for improved efficiency.  All trims across the range now also get an acoustic windshield which helps reduce noise and enhance comfort, along with a new 'ParkSense' parking assist.

This price revision comes only days before FCA launches its bread and butter SUV - the Jeep Compass, in India.
