Mahindra Thar 5-door Interior Spied; Seating Layout and More Details Revealed
The Five-door Mahindra Thar is being tested across India ahead of its official launch. The SUV's exterior has already been revealed thanks to several spy photos that recently emerged, but this is the first time we've had a good look at the interior, including the seating arrangement and cargo area.

The Mahindra Thar five-door is undoubtedly one of the most eagerly awaited SUVs in India right now. The Thar has long been a three-door lifestyle SUV, but a more functional 5-door variant looks imminent after a test mule of the SUV was spotted on the road several times.
The Mahindra Thar five-door has been undergoing testing for a while. Occasionally, spy photos of test mules have appeared online, offering details about the upcoming SUV. But even after so many leaks, the interior of the SUV remained a mystery, and none of the earlier spy photos revealed specifics of the SUV's inside. However, fresh spy images of the upcoming Mahindra Thar five-door have emerged, finally giving a sneak peek at the car's interior layout. The pictures provide a clear view of the car's interior design, seating arrangement, and cargo area.
According to the latest spy images, the new five-door Mahindra Thar's interior has a few standout features. The front armrest of the SUV, for example, can serve as a storage box. Further, the SUV gets steering-mounted controls – a dashboard design that has been carried over from the three-door Thar – and bench seats with a 50:50 split for the second row. The layout of the SUV is fairly simple, comprising physical buttons and toggle switches. The SUV also appears to have a substantial amount of cargo capacity. Moving on to the back, the vehicle will have a sizable boot space, presumably greater than the three-door model.

The earlier spy images of the five-door Mahindra Thar indicated that the car will retain the majority of the design cues of its three-door sibling, such as the familiar multi-slat grille, vertically aligned taillights, turn indicators mounted on the fenders, a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate, ORVMs mounted on the front doors, circular headlamps, and side steps. It will also receive a tailgate window, which can be opened, a hood scoop, new five-spoke alloy wheels, and a larger high-mounted stop lamp.
The Mahindra Thar five-door will be offered with two engine options – a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. Like the three-door variant, these engines will be mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. However, it is likely that the engine will be modified to provide more power in order to match the SUV's larger dimensions.

Although the Mahindra Thar five-door's launch date has not yet been officially announced, rumours indicate that it will make its debut on January 23, 2023. The SUV will face competition from other models that are also expected to be introduced in India, such as the five-door variants of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the Force Gurkha. Those seeking a lifestyle product with a touch of practicality might be drawn to the five-door versions of these tough SUVs.
