Bharat NCAP recently assessed the Maruti Suzuki Baleno for crash safety, awarding it a 4-star rating for adult protection and 3 stars for child safety. The evaluation covered two variants – one offering six airbags and another with only two. While both configurations recorded an identical 34.81 out of 49 for child occupant safety, their scores for adult safety differed. The six-airbag version secured 26.52 out of 32, slightly ahead of the two-airbag model, which scored 24.04.
In terms of individual crash test performance, both versions received 11.54 out of 16 in the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier assessment. However, the Side Impact Test revealed different outcomes: the six-airbag model earned 12.50, while the two-airbag version achieved a higher 14.99 out of 16.
The Baleno tested came packed with a broad suite of safety systems. These included anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution, electronic stability control (ESC), and hill hold assistance.
Other notable additions were an auto-dimming interior mirror, front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and load limiters, and a 360-degree camera to aid parking. The model also features speed-sensing auto door locks, ISOFIX child seat anchors, a reverse parking camera with integrated sensors, high-speed warning alerts, and three-point seatbelts for all passengers.
Powering the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is a 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine that produces 89bhp and 113Nm of torque, offered with a choice between a five-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. The CNG variant, on the other hand, delivers 76.4bhp and 98.5Nm of torque and is available exclusively with the manual transmission.

Key highlights of the Baleno include a head-up display, cruise control, keyless entry, push-start functionality, and automatic climate control. It also features a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, complemented by an Arkamys sound system with four speakers and two tweeters.
Maruti Suzuki’s fourth-generation Dzire has been evaluated by Bharat NCAP as well, achieving a landmark result – becoming the brand’s first sedan to secure a five-star safety rating in both adult and child protection categories. In the tests, the Dzire recorded a strong 29.46 out of 32 for adult occupant safety and 41.57 out of 49 for child occupant protection.
This is not the model’s first recognition for safety. In November 2024, the same generation of the Dzire also became Maruti Suzuki’s first product to be awarded five stars by Global NCAP, establishing it as a breakthrough for the manufacturer in terms of crash safety credentials.

Dynamic testing, which evaluates real-world crash scenarios, yielded 23.57 points out of a maximum of 24, indicating strong occupant protection.
The child restraint system (CRS) installation received a perfect 12 out of 12, affirming the car’s family-friendly safety design. However, in the area of active safety technologies, such as driver assists, the Dzire scored 6 out of 13 in Bharat NCAP’s vehicle safety assist assessment.
