The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara has earned a 5-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. It is the brand’s first-ever EV and the fourth model overall to achieve this top rating.

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara has earned a 5-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests. It is the brand’s first-ever EV and the fourth model overall to achieve this top rating, following the Victoris, Invicto, and Dzire. The e-Vitara scored 31.49 out of 32 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 43 out of 49 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP). To recall, the SUV had previously earned a 4-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash tests.
Speaking on the award, Shri Nitin Gadkari, Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, said, “Congratulations to Maruti Suzuki for achieving 5-star Bharat NCAP in both adult and child occupant protection for their e Vitara. I am especially glad that Maruti Suzuki has shown real leadership in providing 7 airbags as standard across all variants of the e Vitara.'

Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of the Bharat NCAP crash test results.
Maruti Suzuki’s first EV obtained 15.49 points out of 16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and a full 16 out of 16 in the side deformable barrier test. When it was subjected to the frontal crash test at a speed of 64km/h, the electric SUV demonstrated ‘good’ protection for the driver's and passenger’s head, neck, thighs, and pelvis. The driver’s chest protection was deemed ‘adequate’, whereas the passenger’s was rated ‘good’. Both of the driver’s tibias were rated ‘adequate’, while the co-driver’s tibia protection was assessed as ‘good’.
Additionally, the driver’s feet were also well protected, earning a ‘good’ rating. During the 50km/h side impact test, the e-Vitara offered ‘good’ protection to all body areas of the driver. The side pole test also confirmed the same level of protection throughout.
The e Vitara scored 43 out of 49 points overall in the COP category. It achieved a perfect dynamic score of 24 out of 24 points and 12 out of 12 points for child restraint system (CRS) installation. In the vehicle assessment, the SUV scored 7 out of 13 points.
Both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old test dummies received full protection scores, demonstrating the SUV’s strong child safety credentials.
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara has a robust body structure with over 60% ultra-high and high-tensile steel, complemented by an advanced battery protection system with an energy-absorbing mounting design. It comes equipped with Level 2 ADAS, including Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Blind Spot Monitoring.

Other safety features include ABS with EBD, Multi-Collision Braking, seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, and Electronic Stability Program (ESP).
