Maruti Suzuki will enter India’s EV market with the launch of the e Vitara tomorrow, December 2. The electric SUV made its India debut earlier this year at the Bharat Mobility Auto Expo and is already on sale in Europe. It is developed and manufactured in India at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur facility in Gujarat.
For the uninitiated, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the very first unit of the e Vitara in August, marking a notable milestone in the country’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. The e Vitara will be exported to over 100 countries, including key markets such as Europe and Japan. It will be offered with two battery options and is said to deliver a range of more than 500 kilometres.
Globally, Maruti Suzuki offers the e Vitara with a choice of two battery packs: 49kWh and 61kWh. The front-wheel-drive variants produce 142bhp and 192.5Nm with the 49kWh battery, while the larger 61kWh pack increases output to 172bhp without altering torque. The SUV is also offered in an all-wheel-drive configuration featuring a dual-motor setup that delivers a combined 181bhp and 300Nm. The 61kWh version can accelerate from 0–100km/h in about 8.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 150km/h.
In terms of range, the WLTP-certified figures are 344km for the 49kWh FWD model, 428km for the 61kWh FWD variant, and 394km for the AWD version. Reportedly, Maruti Suzuki will initially roll out the e Vitara in its front-wheel-drive configurations for the Indian market. The more capable all-wheel-drive variants are expected to join the lineup later as the model range gradually expands.
In terms of design, the upcoming e Vitara draws inspiration from the eVX concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. The front is striking, and it has sharp-looking headlamps with Y-shaped DRLs, a rugged blacked-out bumper, and subtle silver skid plates. On the side, the SUV features muscular body cladding, alloy wheels, and cleverly integrated rear door handles in the C-pillar. The rear completes the overall look with LED taillights, a shark-fin antenna, and a roof-mounted spoiler.

Maruti Suzuki’s first-ever EV boasts a dual-tone black and tan cabin with a clean, minimalist dashboard and dual screens. On the global model, the carmaker offers a range of features, including a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, keyless entry and start, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, four speakers, ventilated front seats, and ambient lighting.

For safety, the e-SUV comes equipped with Level-2 ADAS, seven airbags, all-disc brakes, front and rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and an electronic parking brake with auto-hold. Most of these features are expected to make their way to the India-spec model, though availability may vary across variants.
