June will see a few new launches from luxury car makers and a much-awaited SUV from Jeep

The month of May saw a lot of launches – from a new variant of the Toyota Innova Crysta in the form of the Touring Sport to the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire. Two new SUVs were launched too – the Isuzu MU-X and the Volkswagen Tiguan. June, however, is expected to be relatively slower when it comes to launches, with just three lined up in the month so far.

Nissan Micra – June 2

Nissan will be bringing an updated version of the popular Micra on June 2. This will not be the all-new Nissan Micra that was showcased globally last year. In fact, this Micra will be a facelift with a few cosmetic updates and some noticeable feature updates. Nissan is likely to add a bunch of features to the Micra including rain sensing wipers, a touchscreen infotainment system, reversing camera and more. As far as engine options are concerned, the facelifted Micra will come with the same powerplants as the outgoing model. The Micra comes with a 1.2-litre petrol motor that makes 76bhp and 104Nm, and a 1.5-litre diesel that is good for 63bhp and 160Nm. Both engines come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission while the petrol also comes with a CVT option. Expect the facelifted Nissan Micra to be priced marginally higher than the model on sale currently.

New BMW 5 Series – June-end

Subsequent to the global unveil of the new 5 Series last year, BMW is now ready to launch it in India. This 5 Series is an all-new model and not just a facelift. The design of this new 5 Series is inspired from its larger sibling, the 7 Series. The Munich-based carmaker promises this mid-sized sedan to be lighter, larger and more fun to drive than its predecessor. In India, the 5 Series will come with three engine options – one petrol and two diesels. The lower-spec diesel churns out 187bhp and 400Nm from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder motor while the more powerful diesel is a 3.0-litre straight-six that makes 261bhp and 620Nm. The petrol motor is the same one that works force on the 3GT – a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit that makes 248bhp and 350Nm. Expect the new 5 Series to be heavily loaded in terms of equipment too. When launched, the new BMW 5 Series is expected to be priced from Rs 55 lakhs to Rs 65 lakhs.

Jeep Compass

The Jeep Compass is easily one of the most awaited SUVs this year. When the Jeep brand entered India a few years back, the price that they came at really took enthusiasts by surprise. But with the Compass soon to be launched at a much affordable price tag, the Jeep brand will now be accessible to a larger audience. Under the hood, the Jeep Compass will come with two engine options – petrol and diesel. The petrol-powered Compass will churn out 160bhp and 250Nm from a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine. The diesel, on the other hand, gets a 2.0-litre unit that produces 170bhp and 350Nm. The India-spec Jeep Compass will come with a 6-speed manual and a seven-speed dry dual clutch transmission. Local production of the new Jeep Compass is expected to begin in June, with the launch to follow soon after. When launched, the Jeep Compass is likely to be priced around the Rs 20-25 lakhs price range.
