Maruti Suzuki Dzire Launch 500x261

Based on an all-new platform, the third-gen Maruti Suzuki DZire is lighter, more efficient, more spacious and better equipped than before.

After unveiling the third-gen DZire a few weeks ago, Maruti Suzuki has finally put a price tag on the compact-sedan. Prices start at Rs 5.45 lakh and go up to Rs 9.41 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and there's a total of fourteen variants available in petrol and diesel with either a manual or automatic gearbox.

Everything – except for the powertrains- about the third-gen DZire is virtually brand new. The sedan has been built from the ground up and is based on the firm’s Heartect platform – which also underpins the Baleno, Ignis and the upcoming Swift hatchback. Thanks to the new platform, the new model is substantially lighter – the weight of the diesel version has been reduced by over 105kg while petrol gets a cut of 95kg. Not only that, the new DZire sits on a 20mm longer wheelbase and is 40mm wider. The boot space has also gone up from 320 to 378 litres.

The change in dimensions is also reflected in the design of the new DZire. It looks more proportionate and stylish than before. The front fascia is all-new and is highlighted by a polygonal grille, a new bumper and LED projector headlamps. The side profile looks familiar, albeit you now get bigger 15-inch alloy wheels in top-end models. The rear-section design is also completely new and doesn’t look like a last-minute add-on. The boot gels well with the overall design and bits like LED tail-lamps impart a premium and upmarket feel.

Step inside and you’ll be greeted by an all-new interior. The cabin gets a dual-tone black-beige theme and comes with a few new features. There’s a new touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and a new flat-bottom steering wheel with faux wood inlays – which look a bit over the top, we’ve to say. Other than that, you now get rear AC vents, a start-stop ignition button, automatic climate control, steering mounted controls, auto headlamps, and many more features. Safety net includes ABS, dual airbags and ISOFIX seats as standard.

Engine options remain unchanged - you get the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel from the old model. The petrol version develops 82bhp@6,000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 4,200rpm, whereas the diesel engine produces 74bhp@4,000rpm and 190Nm@2,000rpm. The petrol engine has a claimed fuel economy of 22km/l, while the diesel delivers 28.4km/l. Power transmission duties are carried out by a five-speed manual as standard, while AMT (automated manual transmission) is optional in both petrol and diesel.

Here's the variant wise ex-showroom, Delhi, prices of the new Maruti Suzuki DZire:

Petrol:
LXi - Rs 5.45 lakh
VXi - Rs 6.29 lakh
VXi AGS - Rs 6.76 lakh
ZXi - Rs 7.05 lakh
ZXi AGS - Rs 7.52 lakh
ZXi + - Rs 7.94 lakh
