Maruti Suzuki commenced bookings for its fourth-generation Swift hatchback on May 1. Ever since then, the hatchback has gathered more than 40,000 bookings in India. A couple of days ago, Maruti Suzuki had reported selling 19,393 units of the new Swift last month, making it the highest-selling model in its debut month. Launched on May 9, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift comes in five variants – LXi, VXi, VXi (O) ZXi and ZXi+, with prices ranging from Rs 6.49 lakh to Rs 9.64 lakh (ex-showroom). Speaking of variants, the manual variants of the hatchback emerged as the preferred choice for 83 per cent of buyers, while the automatic variants accounted for 17 per cent of the total bookings. Moreover, nearly 50 per cent of bookings in manual and AMT guise happened to be placed for the VXi variant.

Currently, Maruti Suzuki offers a Z-series 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine for the new-generation Swift. Replacing the earlier K-Series engine, the new motor is tuned to produce 80bhp at 5,700rpm and 112Nm of peak torque at 4,300rpm, down by 9bhp and 1Nm. The engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic transmission. As for mileage, the manual version yields 24.8km/l, while the automatic version offers 25.75km/l.

'We have right now introduced the petrol variant (of the Swift), the CNG variant has not yet been introduced. 40,000 bookings just for Petrol is a very good response, and we’re seeing good traction for the Swift in the first month of launch,' said Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing & Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Limited.
