Mercedes-Benz CLA EV

Mercedes-Benz has finally brought the CLA EV to India, and this one feels like a big shift in its entry line-up. Priced from Rs 55 lakh (ex-showroom), the CLA EV now takes over as the brand’s most accessible model here, effectively replacing the A-Class Limousine, EQA and EQB. What makes this launch important is simple, the CLA is now fully electric for the first time in India. You get two versions, the 200 Standard Range and the 250+ Long Range at Rs 59 lakh, along with a Launch Edition at Rs 64 lakh with 19-inch wheels and a black and gold finish.

Mercedes-Benz CLA EV: Design

On the outside, it still looks every bit a CLA, low, sleek and coupe-like, but now with a sharper EV identity. The drag coefficient of 0.21 is not just a number, it directly helps improve range and efficiency. The car is slightly larger than before, yet it feels tighter in how it cuts through air. The sloping roofline and frameless doors remain, keeping that familiar coupe silhouette intact.

What stands out instantly is the lighting setup. The three-pointed star theme runs across the car, including a front panel with 142 illuminated stars that grab attention at night. The 250+ variant brings the AMG Line package, adding revised bumpers and 18-inch aero wheels. It looks clean and purposeful, without trying too hard, which works well for a car in this segment.

Mercedes-Benz CLA EV: Interior

Inside, the wide dashboard packs a 14-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch driver display, both easy to read and use on the move. The illuminated star pattern on the passenger side adds a unique touch. It is not just about design, it gives the cabin a distinct identity, especially during night drives.

The AMG Line trim brings a flat-bottom steering wheel, metal pedals and sport seats, giving the cabin a slightly driver-focused feel. Practicality still holds up, with a 405-litre boot and a 101-litre frunk adding useful storage. For a car with this shape, it manages space well, which matters if you plan to use it as a daily driver.

The feature list feels complete without being excessive. You get powered front seats with heating and massage, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting and a panoramic glass roof. A Burmester 3D sound system and wireless charging are also included. Everything works as expected, and more importantly, it feels easy to live with on a daily basis.

Safety includes six airbags, a 360-degree camera and auto park assist. It also gets Level 2+ ADAS, which can take over some driving tasks in traffic or on highways. Mercedes-Benz has also worked on the suspension and ground clearance for Indian roads. That should help the CLA EV handle rough patches and speed breakers without constant concern.

Mercedes-Benz CLA EV: Powertrain

Now to the important bit. The 200 Standard Range uses a 58kWh battery with 221bhp and 335Nm. It delivers a claimed range of 542km and manages 0 to 100km/h in 7.5 seconds. The 250+ Long Range moves to an 85kWh battery with 268bhp, keeping torque unchanged, but improving both performance and overall driving range.

It also stretches the range to 792km, which puts it among the highest in this segment. Both variants use a two-speed gearbox, something you do not usually see in EVs. With an 800V system, fast charging goes up to 320kW, allowing a claimed 300km range top-up in just 10 minutes, making long-distance use more practical.

At this price point, the CLA EV goes up against the BYD Seal. It brings a mix of long range, quick charging and a familiar badge. For buyers looking to move into a premium electric sedan, this could be one of the more relevant options currently available in the Indian market.
