Toyota’s new Innova Crysta will hit the market soon and is all set to redefine the MUV segment in India

A legacy is all set to be carried forward in the first week of May 2016 as Toyota will be carrying out the market launch of its new Innova into the Indian market. The Innova has been around in the Indian market for a long time now and it has aged very well in that time as demand is still high for India’s favorite MUV despite a very expensive price tag. The new model that will be launched in a fortnight or so is all set to take that success recipe forward.

In order to do that, Toyota has made the new Innova significantly more contemporary by giving it all-new styling inside out. While the overall profile of the vehicle remains similar to that of its predecessor new panels, lamps and sharper design lines make for a more modern appeal. The vehicle continues to be underpinned by a ladder frame chassis, but as we know from the original model, this recipe works just fine for the Innova on the ride and handling department.

The highlight for the new model will in a way be the all-new interiors that feel far more premium with faux wood trim and lots more equipment such as an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry and start / stop, voice commands for the stereo and lots more.

Another major highlight of course are the new 2.4 litre and 2.8 litre, four cylinder turbo diesel engines for the new Innova. The 2.4 litre unit will be paired with a manual transmission and will develop peak power and torque outputs of 149bhp and 343Nm, respectively. The 2.8 litre motor will be mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox and develop 174bhp of max power and 360Nm of peak torque.

The Innova will definitely redefine the ballpark for MUVs in India. However, we hope it will be priced well as Toyota has made the current Innova fairly expensive in India.
