Just about a week back, Toyota Motor Corporation introduced a new model to the Land Cruiser lineup — the Land Cruiser FJ. The FJ sits below the LC 250 as the entry-level Land Cruiser, making the moniker accessible to a wider range of customers. The carmaker has showcased the FJ at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 ahead of its domestic launch, and a media report suggests that the SUV might make its way to India in 2028.
As per a report by Autocar India, Toyota is planning to launch the Land Cruiser FJ in India sometime in 2028. The new SUV is likely to come with petrol and hybrid powertrains, with no diesel engines expected.
The Land Cruiser FJ gets an overall boxy design with a rugged look that goes in line with the classic Land Cruiser image. It gets a heavy dosage of body cladding, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel.

Unlike the larger LCs, the FJ sits on Toyota’s IMV platform, which also underpins the Fortuner and Hilux. It measures 4,575mm in length, 1,855mm in width, 1,960mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,580mm.

The interior seems to be very utilitarian and looks proper rugged rather than trying to look fancy. There’s a mix of physical and touch-based controls that can be seen on the dashboard.
The Prototype that has been unveiled by Toyota features the familiar 2.7-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel-drive system. Claimed maximum power and torque figures of the system stand at 161bhp and 246Nm, respectively.

We expect Toyota to offer more powertrain options on the SUV when it goes on sale in global markets.

Toyota might also produce the Land Cruiser FJ locally in India, thereby enabling it to be priced competitively.
