Kia India has officially announced that it delivered more than 70 custom-made Carens MPVs to the Punjab Police. It was showcased as a purpose-built vehicle at the recent Bharat Mobility Expo. The specifically constructed Kia Carens for Punjab Police have a variety of features, such as public address systems, powerful strobe lights, and 'Dial 112 and Emergency Response Vehicle' graphics. At the 2023 Auto Expo, the South Korean automaker first displayed PBV Carens as an ambulance and police car. With its PBV models, the carmaker wants to suffice the requirements of various mobility needs of India's specialized institutions. It further strives to dominate the PBV market worldwide by 2030. Let's take a closer look at all the features that the new bespoke Carens MPV comes equipped with.

Kia Carens Purpose-built MPV: Key Highlights

According to an official release from Kia, the police department will employ the Carens as an Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) to help citizens promptly in case of an emergency. The South Korean automaker has added an array of equipment to the vehicle to satisfy the requirements of Punjab's police force. Mechanically speaking, the modified Kia MPV is equipped with a 1.5-litre petrol mill paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

In contrast to the conventional Carens, the bespoke model boasts a larger 60Ah battery capacity that will power the additional electronics installed. The PBV Kia model has several characteristics, including steel wheels, three rows with adjustable headrests, five Type-C USB charging ports, 12-volt power outlets, a 60:40 split second row, and a 55:50 split third row. The specially designed Carens for Punjab Police also come equipped with safety features like ABS, start/stop functionality, tyre pressure monitoring, and disc brakes on all of our wheels.

It is not new for popular passenger cars to be accepted and added to police vehicle fleets in India and overseas. Last year, the Indian Army's fleet included the famous Toyota Hilux Pickup off-roader, while the Italian police force added the Lamborghini Urus Performante.

Regarding the Kia Carens PBV, the firm claims that the Punjab Police Force chose the vehicle because of its larger wheelbase, third-row comfort, and connected capabilities.

In India, the Kia Carens is priced between Rs 10.45 lakh and Rs 19.45 lakh. Both are ex-showroom prices.
