Brought into India via the CBU route, Skoda has launched the Karoq in a single variant priced at Rs 25 lakh. The mid-size SUV is on sale with just turbocharged petrol and 7-speed DSG combination.

After a long wait, Skoda has finally launched the Karoq in the Indian market at Rs 25 lakh. Skoda started accepting bookings for the new Karoq in March. The mid-size SUV has been brought via the CBU route which allows Skoda to sell 2,500 units of the car without homologation. The mid-size SUV first made its public debut in May 2017 and has been on sale in the global market soon after that.

Globally, Skoda offers a range of petrol and diesel engine options in the Karoq. Here in India though, it has only been introduced with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor that delivers 148 horses and 250Nm. The engine comes paired with a 7-speed DSG unit, there will be no manual transmission option.

The Karoq has typical Skoda design cues and looks somewhat like a scaled-down iteration of the popular Kodiaq. In terms of size, the Karoq is almost identical to the Jeep Compass. At 4,382mm, it is 13mm shorter than the Compass but is marginally wider and has a larger boot. On the outside, the Karoq features LED headlamps with DRLs, LED taillights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Other features include a shark-fin antenna, roof rails, electrically adjustable ORVMs, reverse parking sensors, and more.

Interior features include a fully-digital instrument cluster (much like Audi’s Virtual Cockpit), a touchscreen infotainment unit connected to a 12-speaker audio system, dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof and more. Just like the Kodiaq, the Karoq also comes with a few ‘simply clever’ feature like the Vario flex seats, magnetic boot light, luggage separators and more.

The Skoda Karoq will compete against the likes of the Jeep Compass and the Volkswagen T-Roc. Along with the Karoq, Skoda has also brought in the entry-level Rapid 1.0 TSI and the Superb facelift.
