The 2025 Skoda Kodiaq and the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line are two premium SUVs from the same parent company, the VW Group, sharing the same engine and nearly identical pricing. This makes the decision between them less about budget and more about individual priorities. However, they belong to slightly different segments—the Kodiaq offers three rows of seating, making it ideal for larger families or those who need added flexibility. The Tiguan R-Line, on the other hand, is a two-row SUV with a sportier design and a more driver-focused appeal. We compare both models to determine which one offers better value and versatility.
In terms of dimensions, the Skoda Kodiaq outpaces the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line. Measuring 4,758mm in length, it’s 219mm longer than the Tiguan, offering a more spacious cabin and a stronger road presence.
The Kodiaq is also slightly wider by 5mm and taller by 23mm, enhancing both stability and interior headroom. Its extended 2,791mm wheelbase—111mm more than the Tiguan—translates to improved legroom, particularly beneficial for third-row occupants. Being a proper 7-seater SUV, the Kodiaq also offers superior cargo flexibility. With all rows up, it provides 281 litres of boot space, expanding to 786 litres with the third row folded, and up to 1,976 litres max—well beyond the Tiguan R-Line’s 652 litres.
The 2025 Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line take unique approaches to design, each reflecting the distinctive philosophies of their respective brands. The Kodiaq adopts Skoda’s ‘Modern Solid’ language, characterised by sharp body lines, a pseudo-split headlight design, and a sophisticated full-LED lighting system, including a continuous light strip at the rear.
The Sportline trim offers a bold, sporty look with blacked-out elements, while the Selection L&K trim brings a more refined feel with chrome and silver accents. On the other hand, the Tiguan R-Line takes a more dynamic route with a blacked-out exterior, a full-width illuminated strip, and slim DRLs, enhancing its sporty flair. Meanwhile, larger 19-inch alloys, ‘R’ badges, and a sleek connected LED taillight bar contribute to its muscular, athletic stance.
Features-wise, the Kodiaq focuses more on rear-seat comfort and everyday usability with reclining rear seats and manual sunshades. In contrast, the Tiguan R-Line puts more emphasis on tech, with a larger 15-inch touchscreen. For reference, the Kodiaq packs a 13-inch display. It also includes a 13-speaker Canton sound system.
For safety, the Tiguan takes the lead with Level-2 ADAS, while the Kodiaq offers added practicality with features like a 360-degree camera and parking assist.
Beneath the surface, the 2025 Skoda Kodiaq and Tiguan R-Line are mechanically identical, running on a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor that now delivers 201bhp and 320Nm. A 7-speed dual-clutch transmission sends power to all four wheels in both SUVs.
