In an exclusive interaction, Zac Hollis, Director, Skoda Auto India, confirmed that the second product to be based on the new MQB A0 IN platform will be a mid-sized sedan. It is expected to launch before the end of 2021.

It has been nearly two years since Volkswagen Group announced the aggressive India 2.0 Project, with Skoda Auto India at the forefront. At the time, the German giant also revealed that they will invest €1 Billion in India for future growth and developing products that are specifically for the Indian market. Fast forward to 2020, a day prior to the Auto Expo in February, at the Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Group Night, Skoda India took the wraps off the Vision IN concept – the pre-production version of an upcoming SUV based on the heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform. With the official unveiling, it has been clear that the Vision IN will be the first product to be launched as part of the India 2.0 Project.

In an exclusive interaction, Zac Hollis, Director, Skoda Auto India revealed that the second product will be a mid-sized sedan. 'I have seen the car, and it is absolutely fantastic. In fact, I think it will stop the reduction in sedan segment that is happening in India currently. We will bring it before the end of 2021 as well.' Although no further details were revealed, it is safe to assume that the sedan will be nearly 4.5 metres in length and could possibly replace the Vento in India.

Also, Skoda was scheduled to bring in a few products in April and May 2020. The Czech carmaker was scheduled to launch the Karoq and the Rapid TSI this month, followed by the Superb face-lift in May. With the country in a complete lockdown state since 22nd March, Skoda was forced to postpone the launch. In the interview, Hollis also confirmed that they are now looking at bringing all three cars together soon after the lockdown lifts.
