Tata Motors is readying the Curvv SUV for launch in India this year, and this will be based on the Nexon platform and have a similar design language as well. Showcased in a close-to-production avatar at the recently concluded Bharat Mobility Expo 2024 (February 1 to 3), the upcoming Curvv will borrow a 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine from the Nexon, making it another SUV to join the midsize SUV segment – which already includes the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta – with the option of a diesel mill. The diesel-powered Tata Curvv will be the first one to go on sale in India, followed by turbo-petrol variants. While the price announcement is still some time away, we compare the Tata Currv and the Hyundai Creta to see how they fare on paper.

Tata Curvv vs Hyundai Creta Facelift: Exterior

Last month, the final design of the Curvv was revealed through a patent image, confirming that the production-spec SUV will look quite similar to the concept vehicle that was displayed at the Auto Expo 2023. According to the image, the Tata Curvv gets a blanked-out grille, a modified front bumper with a wide air inlet, triangular housings for LED headlamps, and wedge-shaped DRLs. On the sides, the car has a sloping roofline, door-mounted rearview mirrors, flush door handles, and alloy wheels with a petal design. While the image offered no glimpse at the rear profile, we expect the Curvv to not deviate much from the concept.

Launched in January 2024, the Hyundai Creta facelift comes with a redesigned front fascia defined by an upright hood, a parametric black chrome grille, inverted L-shaped LED daytime running lights with an LED light bar, split LED headlamps, faux skid plates, and a reworked bumper. Meanwhile, the taillamp design and the LED light bar setup look quite similar to the ones at the front. What has also changed is that the rear bumper has been re-profiled, and the tailgate has been redesigned. Completing the look is a sporty spoiler, an integrated LED stop lamp, new dual-tone alloy wheels, and a shark fin antenna.

Tata Curvv vs Hyundai Creta Facelift: Interior

The recently revealed interior image of the Tata Curvv tells us that the upcoming SUV will feature a similar-looking cabin, with a multi-layered dashboard design, a two-spoke illuminated steering wheel, and two 10.25-inch screens for the infotainment and digital driver display. Other bits expected include plenty of switchgear and buttons, steering-mounted controls, ventillated seats, a wireless charger, a sunroof, automatic climate control, cruise control, a 360-degree camera, and so on.

There's still time to get our hands on its official interior details. Now, let's see what the Curvv's rival gets. Like the Curvv, the Hyundai Creta is equipped with twin 10.25-inch screens – an infotainment screen with in-built navigation and a digital driver display. You also get redesigned central AC vents with a single band of physical buttons as well as new upholstery options, depending on the variant. Other conveniences include ambient lighting, ventillated front seats, a leatherette D-Cut steering wheel, leatherette door armrest covering, an eight-way powered driver’s seat, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, an eight-speaker Bose sound system, and type-C USB chargers.

Tata Curvv vs Hyundai Creta Facelift: Safety Kit

Safety-wise, we expect the Tata Curvv to bring in six airbags, a 360-degree camera, a blind-spot monitoring system, electronic stability control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system, all of which are available on the Creta – which also get Level 2 ADAS suite and all-wheel disc brakes, while the rear disc brakes and ADAS suite (including blind spot detection, autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, and high beam assist) are on the cards for the Curvv.

Tata Curvv vs Hyundai Creta Facelift: Powertrain

Under the hood, there will be a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, diesel engine that will power the Curvv. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the engine makes 113bhp and 260Nm of torque. With this, the Curvv will enter the midsize SUV segment and go against the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta, which also comes powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, oil burner dishing out 114bhp of peak power and 250Nm of maximum torque.

Other options on the Curvv and the Creta include a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine (123bhp) and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (113bhp), respectively. Additionally, the Creta also gets a 1.5-litre turbocharged GDi petrol engine that puts out 158bhp and 253Nm of peak torque. The transmission options on the Creta are a six-speed manual, CVT automatic, seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, and six-speed clutchless manual. Meanwhile, the new addition to the Curvv – 1.2-litre turbo petrol – will be offered with both manual and automatic transmissions.

Tata Curvv vs Hyundai Creta Facelift: Price

The option of a CNG powertrain is also expected on the Tata Curvv. Besides, the electric version of the Curvv could go on sale before the ICE version (Rs 12 lakh to Rs 20 lakh), and will likely be in the range of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh. On the other hand, the facelifted Hyundai Creta ICE ranges from Rs 11 lakh to Rs 20.15 lakh. Prices are ex-showroom.
