September proved to be a big month for the auto industry as GST slabs came into effect. Amidst the tax changes, the Tata Nexon stole the spotlight and emerged as the best-selling car of the month, outperforming several popular models, including the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and Hyundai Creta. While EVs retained their 5% tax in the revised GST structure, small cars saw their total tax drop from 29–31% to 18%, resulting in a significant price cut and increased affordability. Luxury cars and SUVs also witnessed a tax reduction from 43–50% to 40%, leading to moderate price drops. These changes helped boost overall car sales during the month. Here’s a breakdown of the top 5 best-selling cars in September 2025.
The Nexon was the best-selling car in September 2025 with 22,573 units sold. This led to a remarkable 61% jump from August 2025 and a notable 97% growth compared to September 2024. With prices currently starting at around Rs 8.15 lakh (ex-showroom), the Nexon offers a compelling mix of value, features, and performance. The Tata SUV comes with petrol, diesel, and CNG options. The 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 118bhp and 170Nm, while the 1.5-litre diesel engine delivers 113bhp and 260Nm.
