Tata Motors has launched the Punch Facelift in India, and with the addition of a brand-new turbo-petrol engine, the micro-SUV now stands a much better chance of taking on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. Both cars target those looking for a compact, stylish, and feature-rich city-friendly that offers an SUV-like experience without the size or price of a full-fledged SUV. So, we compare them across multiple parameters to find out which one offers the best value for money.
With the 2026 update, the Tata Punch has finally got the ‘punch’ it was missing. The micro-SUV now comes with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Nexon, giving it an edge over Maruti Suzuki’s coupe-crossover with higher power and torque figures. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx, however, responds with its smaller 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo engine, which, despite producing lower peak numbers, stands out for its smooth and responsive nature. That said, both models continue to offer 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engines as well as CNG variants.
| Specification | Tata Punch Turbo | Maruti Suzuki Fronx |
| Engine | 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine | a 1.0-litre turbocharged Boosterjet petrol engine |
| Power | 118bhp | 99bhp |
| Torque | 170Nm | 147.6Nm |
| Transmission | 6-Speed MT | 5-Speed MT / 6-Speed Torque Converter |

The Fronx, built on a longer and wider Baleno-based platform, feels more stable on the road and has a premium, crossover-like look. Its 2,520mm wheelbase, compared to the Punch’s 2,445mm, provides extra legroom in the back, making it more comfortable for adult passengers.

The Tata Punch Facelift, on the other hand, sticks to classic SUV traits. Its taller body gives a higher driving position and more headroom. Despite being smaller overall, the Punch also comes with a bigger 366-litre boot, making it more practical for those who need extra luggage space.
| Dimensions | Tata Punch Facelift | Maruti Suzuki Fronx | Difference |
| Length | 3,827mm | 3,995mm | -168mm |
| Width | 1,742mm | 1,765mm | -23mm |
| Height | 1,615mm | 1,550mm | +65mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,445mm | 2,520mm | -75mm |
| Ground Clearance | 193mm | 190mm | +3mm |
| Boot Space | 366 litres | 308 litres | +58 litres |

As for comfort and safety, both the Tata Punch Facelift and Maruti Suzuki Fronx offer a decent package. The Punch micro-SUV offers a voice-assisted sunroof, wireless charging, and a 360-degree camera.

Meanwhile, the Fronx comes equipped with a Head-Up Display (HUD), a 360-degree camera, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity, and Suzuki Connect. In terms of safety, the Punch SUV comes equipped with 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, six airbags (standard), TPMS, rain-sensing wipers, ESP, and a 360-degree camera.
The Fronx is also well-equipped, with amenities such as six airbags, ESC, a rear defogger, a 360-degree camera, and hill hold assist.
The Tata Punch Facelift is more affordable, priced starting at Rs 5.59 lakh (ex‑showroom) for the base petrol variant. Prices go up to Rs 8.29 – Rs 9.79 lakh for higher trims and the turbo‑petrol option in its standard lineup, while CNG variants sit slightly above the petrol range.
