The long-standing anticipation over Tesla’s entry into India has finally ended, with the U.S. EV giant making its way to our shores, featuring the Model Y in its lineup. The electric SUV is available in rear-wheel drive configuration only, with prices ranging between Rs 59.89 lakh (Standard) and Rs 67.89 lakh (Long Range). Its bookings are now underway for a token amount of Rs 22,220 (Rs 3 lakh must be paid within a week). The U.S electric vehicle is available in India with six exterior colour options. The Stealth Grey is the standard paint option, while other hues (Diamond Black, Quicksilver, Glacier Blue, Pearl White Multi-Coat, and Ultra Red) are available at an additional cost of up to Rs 1.85 lakh. Interested buyers can purchase the EV from Tesla's first-ever showroom in India at the Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai. Deliveries are set to begin in the third quarter of this year.

The Tesla Model Y merges sophisticated, minimalist design with a strong emphasis on performance and efficiency. It is inspired by the internationally sold Model 3 Highland, and has slim LED headlamps, a sculpted front end, and a smooth profile accentuated by 19-inch alloy wheels and an upward-sweeping window line. At the rear, the electric SUV boasts connected LED tail-lights that offer it a contemporary touch, aligning today’s premium SUV design language.

Inside, the electric SUV boasts a modern design draped in an all-black theme. The black-and-white dual-tone finish is available as an option for an additional price of Rs 95,000. True to Tesla’s minimalist philosophy, there are no physical buttons or switches. You get a centrally mounted 15.4-inch touchscreen to manage nearly all functions. Other highlights are a three-spoke steering wheel, reclining rear seats, rear AC vents, an 8-inch rear entertainment screen, a wireless phone charger, a 9-speaker sound system, and an air purifier. In terms of safety, the Model Y comes equipped with an integrated dashcam and multiple airbags. For those seeking advanced driver assistance, the American EV giant offers its Full Self-Driving (FSD) package as an optional upgrade, priced at Rs 6 lakh.

The Model Y measures 4,790mm in length, 1,982mm in width, and 1,624mm in height. It is offered in two rear-wheel drive variants, with the Standard tipping scales at 1,928 kg, while the Long Range weighing 1,901 kg.
On the performance front, the Standard variant clocks 0–100km/h in 5.9 seconds, while the Long Range shaves that to 5.6 seconds. The range (WLTP) is up to 500 kilometres for the Standard model and 622 kilometres for the Long Range variant. The top speed stands at 201km/h.
