Maruti Suzuki retained its position as India’s best-selling car brand in December 2025. Mahindra returned to second place, edging out Tata Motors by roughly 900 units and pushing it to third. Hyundai took fourth place, while Toyota rounded out the top five. Overall, December marked a robust finish for the Indian car market, with a 25.8% increase in sales compared with the previous year. Tax incentives, festive-season buying, and shifting customer preferences pushed year-end demand higher, following steady sales throughout most of 2025. The Baleno manufacturer maintained its market dominance, selling 1.78 lakh units, which is an increase of 37% over last year's 1.30 lakh units. The robust sales of entry-level and compact cars contributed to the growth, helping the company register the highest market share for the month, up 3.7% year-on-year.

Mahindra recorded sales of 50,946 units in December 2025, a rise of 23% compared to 41,424 units sold in the same month last year. However, sales dipped 9.6% from November, when the company had sold 56,336 units.

The Nexon manufacturer slipped to third place, though it posted a 13% year-on-year growth, selling 50,046 units compared to 44,221 units in December 2024. On a month-over-month basis, the sales fell 12.9% from 57,436 units sold in November.

Hyundai posted a modest 0.5% year-on-year growth in December, with 42,416 units sold versus 42,208 units in December 2024.

Compared to November, when 50,340 units were sold, month-on-month sales fell by 15.7%.

Toyota's sales rose 37% to 34,159 units in December. On a month-over-month basis, the sales increased by 13.5%.
