Indian car buyers once again showed strong loyalty to Maruti Suzuki, keeping it firmly at the top of the sales charts. Mahindra stood in the second spot, thanks to the continued popularity of its rugged SUV lineup among adventure-seekers. Maruti Suzuki

Despite facing a 5.58% year-on-year decline, Maruti Suzuki firmly held on to its position as India’s top-selling car brand in May 2025. The company sold around 1.36 lakh units last month, slightly down from the 1.44 lakh units it recorded in the same period last year.

Mahindra

Mahindra secured the second spot on the sales chart in May 2025, with an impressive 52,431 units—a strong 21.32% increase from 43,218 units sold in the same month last year. This growth highlights the brand’s rising appeal, especially in the SUV segment. Adding to the buzz, a heavily camouflaged SUV—rumoured to be the next-generation Bolero was spotted testing in India. Expected to debut on a brand-new platform this August 15, Mahindra might also unveil a near-production version of the SUV alongside the platform reveal, fueling excitement among enthusiasts.

Hyundai

Hyundai recorded sales of 43,861 units in May 2025, showing a 10.76% dip compared to the 49,151 units sold during the same month last year. Despite the decline, the brand has been actively updating its lineup to maintain momentum. Recent additions include refreshed variants of the Alcazar and Verna, aimed at attracting premium segment buyers. Hyundai also rolled out a Wired to Wireless Adapter for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across seven models, including the popular Exter and Alcazar, enhancing in-car connectivity and user convenience.

Tata Motors

Tata Motors saw a year-on-year decline of 11.01% in May 2025, with monthly sales dropping to 41,557 units from 46,700 in the same period last year. While overall numbers dipped, the company is actively pushing forward in the electric vehicle space. Its latest launch, the Harrier EV, enters the market at a starting price of Rs 21.49 lakh. Though it retains the familiar styling of its ICE version, the EV brings subtle design tweaks and features tailored specifically for electric driving, reinforcing Tata’s commitment to green mobility.

Toyota

With a 22.21% year-on-year jump, Toyota sold 29,280 vehicles in May 2025, a significant rise from 23,959 units last May.
