The Indian government, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has extended the validity of documents for the fourth time since the pandemic broke out. MoRTH had issued a provisional deadline of March 31, 2021, for the documents. The documents covered under this are those mentioned in the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989. Documents such as the driving licence, registration certificate (RC), and fitness certificate will be considered valid until June 31, 2021.

The first extension was given at the time of the pandemic for the documents which expired after February 1, 2020. The first deadline was set on July 31, 2020, and then extended further up to September 30, 2020. The third deadline was moved toward December 31, 2020.

'Taking into consideration the grim situation still continuing due to conditions for prevention of COVID-19 across the country, it is advised that validity of all the vehicle documents whose extension of validity could not be, or was not likely to be granted due to lockdown and/or COVID-19 and which had expired since 1 February 2020 or would expire by 30 June 2021, the same may be treated valid till 30, June 2021,' stated the ministry in an official release.
