Volkswagen has dropped a new teaser on its social media channels, hinting at an upcoming SUV for the Indian market. The company hasn’t confirmed the model, speculations are rife that it is a much-anticipated Tayron SUV, already available in the global market. The short clip offers only a glimpse, showing the illuminated LED headlamps and DRL signatures at both ends, without revealing further design details. ,
If the upcoming model is the Tayron, it would mark Volkswagen’s entry into India’s expanding three-row SUV segment, competing with rivals such as the Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq, and Toyota Fortuner, while also positioning itself as an alternative to the Citroen C5 Aircross. Here’s everything you can expect from the upcoming Volkswagen Tayron SUV.
The Tayron SUV has already been unveiled internationally and serves as Volkswagen’s three-row counterpart to the Tiguan. While its overall styling closely mirrors the standard Tiguan, it stands out with slim LED headlights flanking an illuminated VW badge, alongside a full-width rear LED light strip and sculpted 3D taillamps.

The SUV sits on alloy wheels ranging from 17 to 19 inches, housed within squared wheel arches. In terms of size, it stretches 4,770mm long, which is 231mm more than the Europe-spec Tiguan. The SUV also boasts a wheelbase extended by approximately 110mm to 2,791mm, allowing space for the third row and a longer rear overhang.

The Volkswagen Tayron packs an extensive list of features. Key amenities include a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a 12.9-inch central infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A head-up display is available on select trims, while standard features include three-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control, ambient lighting, and a configurable drive mode selector.
Premium variants add to the driving experience with powered seats offering massage and ventilation, leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, and a Harman Kardon sound setup. Advanced driver assistance systems such as lane change assist, park assist, and autonomous emergency braking are also part of the package.
The Tayron rides on Volkswagen’s MQB Evo platform and, in global markets, is offered with a wide spectrum of powertrains. These include a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol mild-hybrid, 2.0-litre turbo petrol, 2.0-litre turbo diesel, and two plug-in hybrids (2.0-litre turbo-petrol with an electric motor). Every version is paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission and offered with either front-wheel drive or Volkswagen’s four-wheel-drive system. The plug-in hybrid versions claim an electric-only range of more than 100 kilometres and support both AC and DC fast charging.
