Auto sales May 2022: Top 5 best-selling car brands in India

The Indian passenger vehicle market has shown positive growth in May 2022. On a year-on-year basis, the industry reflected a growth of 185%. Maruti led the charge with a y-o-y growth of 278.3%.

The Indian auto industry has reported a positive tale after reporting year-on-year growth of 185% in May 2022.

The Indian passenger car segment has shown significant year-on-year growth in May this year. Sales number of the Indian car market was up by 185% in May this year as compared to the same month last year. Maruti Suzuki continued to lead with sales of 1.24 lakh units last month. This reflected a year-on-year growth of 278.3 pct as against the same month last year when the company sold 32,903 units. As against April, the company showed a growth of 2 pct.

Tata took up the second position after selling 43,340 cars last month. The number grew by 185.5% as compared to the same month last year when the manufacturer sold 15,180 units. In terms of monthly growth Tata showed a growth of 4.2% from April when it sold 41,590 units. 

Following closely behind Tata was Hyundai which recorded sales of 42,293 units last month. This was on the back of year-on-year growth of 69.2% when the manufacturer had sold 25,001 units in the same month last year. In terms of its performance against last month, the company showed a decline of 3.9 pct after it had managed to sell 44,001 units in April this year.

Mahindra took up the fourth position with the sale of 26,650 units last month. In the same month last year, the brand sold just 7,748 units showing a year-on-year growth of 244%. In terms of sales as compared to last month, the company reported growth of 20.2 pct after selling 22,169 units in April. 

Kia took up the fifth spot after selling 18,718 units in May, a year-on-year growth of 69.4% after the manufacturer sold 11,050 units in the same month last year. As compared to its sales in April, the Korean manufacturer showed a decline of 1.6%.
