The most recent automaker to announce a price increase on its model lineup, effective January 2024, is Honda Cars India. The Japanese OEM plans to offset the impact of growing input costs by increasing the price of its models. The precise amount that will be raised for each model has not yet been disclosed by the manufacturer. For those who don't know, three models are offered by the firm in the Indian market: the Elevate, the City, and the Amaze. The market reaction to the company's latest offering, the Elevate SUV, which made its way to the domestic market at an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 11 lakh, has been positive so far. The brand has also confirmed that this introductory price will remain valid until December 23. In January 2024, the manufacturer will revise these prices again.

Other Automakers to Follow the Trend

The decision to implement the price hike is not exclusive to Honda Cars India. Beginning in January 2024, several other significant auto majors, such as Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Audi India, have also declared their intention to increase the prices of their passenger cars. Similar reasons, such as overall inflation and higher commodity prices, have been cited for these upcoming hikes. Commencing in January, price hikes for various models are being contemplated by other prominent car companies, including Mercedes-Benz India and Tata Motors.

Honda Cars India: November Sales Figures

2023 Honda City Front Three Quarters

Honda Cars India reported total monthly sales of 11,891 vehicles in November. In the domestic market, the manufacturer delivered 8,730 units, compared to 7,051 units delivered at the same time last year. This resulted in a 24 per cent year-on-year gain. The company shipped 3,161 units overseas in the last month, representing a 335 per cent growth over the 726 units exported in November of last year. In October this year, the company sold 13,083 units, a 9.1 per cent decline from the previous month. Due to high demand throughout the festive season and the positive reception of the Honda Elevate, the automaker announced an increase in sales for November. It also stated that it will maintain this favourable trend for the rest of the year, while also adjusting to the changing needs of the Indian automotive sector.
